"Well, this is odd isn't it?" Archer's voice asked. He sounded very amused. "Thinking hard about birds were you? Unless you aren't Rookie, which would be awkward."
I opened my eyes. Archer was crouched in front of me, but he was huge! I yelped, or squawked.
Archer laughed. "You're a bird. Don't freak out about how big I am."
I tilted my head at him before looking at myself. I was black, not at all surprising. I spread my wings and admired my shiny feathers.
"Are you just going to stare at yourself or are you actually going to fly?" Raven asked, landing on Archer's head.
I glared at him. "You really think I'm going to turn down flying?" I beat my wings and flew up to the ceiling. I felt very wobbly. My wings brushed the ceiling and I screeched, falling toward the floor.
Archer caught me and set me on my feet. "Careful there Blackbird," he said with a smirk.
"How do I be a person again?" I asked.
"Considering you changed while you were sleeping and thinking about being a bird you probably need to think about being a person and hope you don't need to be sleeping," Raven said. He still sat on Archer's head.
I thought hard about being a person. What it felt like to walk around, talk, and fight. Mostly fight though. I didn't feel any different, but Archer started to be more like his normal size, which told me I did something right.
Archer put me back on the floor just before Raven clicked his beak. "You're good Rook."
I stopped thinking so much about being a person and looked at my arms. They were completely back to normal. "That felt interesting."
Archer smiled and ran a hand through his hair, accidentally knocking Raven off his head. "I can't turn into a bird, but I wish I could."
I paced around the room. I hardly noticed the humming from the air anymore. A sudden thought occurred to me and I looked out the window. How long have we been in here? I wondered.
"We should probably find Shay. We're leaving as soon as possible," Archer said. "And I'm betting neither of us know how long we were sleeping."
"Speak for yourselves," Raven cawed. "It's early morning. You slept what was left of the day away yesterday."
"Well then!" Archer grinned and pulled his hood back over his head. "Off we go!"
We started for the window. Archer went first and I followed behind him with Raven flying passed both of us. We both climbed swiftly up to the roof.
"Where have you been?!" a familiar Welsh voice shouted when Archer had reached the edge of the roof.
I poked my head over the top and saw Edward standing with Shay and Connor. He glared at Archer and I. "Everyone left yesterday and none of them had seen either of you since the duel. Where. Were. You?"
"We weren't in any danger," Archer said, helping me onto the roof.
Edward glanced at Archer, clearly taking note of his action, and his face hardened. "I find that hard to believe."
"Really Edward," I said. I smiled. "You're like an overprotective father."
Edward humphed and turned around. "Come on. The Jackdaw is in the harbor, assuming nobody was rude and sank it."
Connor gave me the thumbs up but quickly shoved his hand behind his back when Edward looked back. He smiled innocently and followed after Edward. Me, Shay, and Archer walked behind them.
Shay leaned closer. "I've been thinking about our little threesome," he said quietly. "I think we should be called the Eagle Rebels."
I grinned and Archer smirked.
Shay looked at us expectantly. "So... is that a yes?"
Archer thought for a moment. "Eagle... we sort of are, since we're assassins... Rebels..."
"Definitely," I said. "If I wasn't a rebel I would be a bit worried."
"Eagle Rebels it is then," Shay said with a huge grin. "We should only recruit people we trust though..."
"And by that you mean not Edward?" I asked.
Archer and Shay both looked at me mischievously.
"I take that as a yes."

I almost completely screwed up. O.O I almost mentioned Arno. He doesn't show up in this book at all, Shay is good here. He's evil in AC Unity. For those of you who didn't know, it was actually Shay who killed Arno's father.
No questions yet, but I'm happy to answer any that you have.
May the wind blow strong in your sails!
