All of the assassins Archer had asked to come, including Shadiya, gathered into a tight group around Archer. I took my opening and climbed down the side of the building, swinging through a second story window.

The room was dark and completely empty. Dust covered the carpet and billowed up in clouds around my feet when I landed.

It was strange. Dust swirled through the air as I walked toward the door. I placed my hand on the doorknob and turned it. The door opened silently into a much larger space. A dark green door was closed on the opposite side of the room from me. A bed sat in one corner, the place where I stood was between a fireplace and a row of bookshelves that stretched to the far wall, which was covered in drawings. A chair was sitting in front of the fireplace.

It looked like no one had been here in a very long time. A thick layer of dust covered everything.

I wonder if I could fix this place up a bit, I thought to myself. Where to start?

I picked up the chair and set it at the base of one of the bookshelves. I started sweeping the dust off of the books. I did one entire shelve before I gave up and got off the chair. There was just too much dust to do it all by hand.

Something clicked in the back of my mind. The air almost seemed to hum with energy. It was like a live thing, constantly moving and swirling around me. I blinked. Maybe it could get rid of the dust.

As soon as the thought had come dust started flying through the air and toward the open window I'd come through, leaving the wood shining like it had just bee polished and the carpet soft as if it had just been put in.

"I see you've found the place I mastered my power of fire," someone said from behind me.

I turned and saw Archer leaning in the doorway with Raven sitting on his shoulder. A small smirk was on his face. "I'll admit," he said with a small shrug, "that I've let it get a little dirty. I see you've fixed that already."

"Fire?" I asked. "You can control fire?"

Archer's smirk grew a little, but he didn't respond. Instead he sat down on the floor in front of the fireplace. I glared at him, wishing he'd just answer my question for once. He seemed to like leaving me in the dark about things.

Fire burst to life in the fireplace. It lit a large circle around where Archer sat quietly and scattered enough light that I could see the far corners a little better. The air around the fire grew warm and started to rise toward the ceiling.

Experimentally, I mentally ordered the hot air down into Archer's face. Archer blinked and looked over at me. Raven flew up off of Archer's shoulder and looked down at him. "It seems that this room is very good at unlocking magical potential."

Archer smiled. "That it is my friend. I'm glad you've noticed."

   "Who built it?"

"Someone who wasn't human and had a huge amount of power." Archer pushed his hood down. His green and gold eyes reflected the firelight, making them appear like they were on fire. "She was..." he looked up at Raven with a smile, "furry."

   "Furry?" I asked.

"Yes. I met her in another world called Skyrim. She was more cat then human. You actually," he said turning to me, "are like her in so many ways. Only... without the fur."

It registered that Archer had responded to Raven a little late. I tipped my head at him. "You can understand him?"

Archer nodded. "I can talk to birds of all kinds. Connor can only speak to eagles, even then, he needs to be one before it works properly."

"Connor can..." I trailed off, a sudden thought occurring to me. "Could I?"

Archer hummed quietly. "It's possible. Don't get stuck half way though. That would be unpleasant."

"How do I do it then?"

Raven landed on the floor in front of me. "That depends entirely on user. I could tell you how I did it, but I seriously doubt it would even come close to working."

   "I'll fiddle then."

Archer lay back on the floor and closed his eyes. "Have fun," he murmured tiredly.

I smiled at him. I wondered if he would fall asleep there, and if he did, if I could get him out of the room without hurting him too badly. I decided that if he did fall asleep, he could just stay on the floor until he woke up.

I sat down on the floor in the corner and leaned back against the wall. I really wanted to change into a bird. To fly over London, maybe even the ocean. Seeing things that nobody had ever seen before. Have a Birdseye view of the world. I laughed a little at my pun. I closed my eyes and wound up falling asleep.

Sorry I kept you all waiting on this one. I started it last week and just couldn't manage to finish it. If you're interested, I started another story (I know you're all saying "Pine! Just stop starting more and you might work better!" I know. But it's so much fun!) called The Captain's Hacker. It's a Captain America/Winter Soldier/Superhero (duh) fanfiction.
