Dani's POV

It was Friday night and Lauren and I are going to a youth group tonight. Before the youth group, we have some time to hang out in the building. Normally when we go early I immediately go to hang out with my friends. But when I got there today I remembered that I had seen Cole around before.

He is normally hanging out with a couple of his friends but today he was by himself. He was staring at his phone while I stared at him, wondering if I should go talk to him.

He's obviously really shy and I knew that if I didn't talk to him, he probably wouldn't come talk to me. So I decided to get up and walk towards him, hoping he wouldn't ignore me completely.

As I got close to him he looked at me with a sweet and welcoming smile, making me less afraid of being rejected.

Cole- "Hey." He said in a happy tone.

Dani- "Hey!" I said a little louder. I tried to talk calmly but even in regular conversation, I couldn't help but be a little bit louder. It's just how I am.

Cole- "You didn't spill anything right? Because I actually have no idea what I would use to clean." He said as he laughed lightly.

Dani- "No I didn't spill anything!" I said as I rolled my eyes and sat down beside him. I noticed he had a headphone in one of his ears.

Dani- "What are you listening too?" I asked. Peoples taste in music always drew my attention because it's so diverse. There are so many different kinds of music that you could love. And in some weird way, music can almost become a way of explaining a part of your life that confuses you.

Cole- "It's this song called Jean Jacket. Have you heard of it?" He said looking over at me. It was the first time I had noticed the color of his eyes. They were a deep, ocean blue color.

Dani- "No I've never heard it."

Cole- "What about Called Out in the Dark?"

Dani- "No." I said laughing. He then began listing off different songs.

Cole- "Run?" He said asking about another song title.

Dani- "Nope."

Cole- "Figure Me Out?"

Dani- "Yeah!"

Cole- "Really?!" He asked happily.

Dani- "No... I was just kidding." I said unable to hold in my laugh.

Cole- "Oh my gosh. How haven't you heard of these songs?! Their so good!" He pulled his headphone out of his ear.

Cole- "I have to show you good music. You're being deprived and you don't even know it." He said as he laughed.

Dani- "Okay. So show me some music!" He shook his head.

Cole- "No, I can't show you the best music on a phone." I looked at him confused.

Dani- "So how are you going to show me new music if I can't listen to it on your phone."

Cole- "You've got to come with me to this record store. It will change everything. Whenever you want new music, that's where you will go." He always spoke quietly, but when he talked about music he actually seemed comfortable, letting go of his more introverted side.

Dani- "A record store will change everything? How could a record store change my taste in music?"

Cole- "No it won't change your taste in music. But it will change the way you look for music."

Dani- "How is that?" I asked as I scrunched my eyebrows together and laughed.

Cole- "Because when you walk into a record store, you aren't looking for the chart topping songs. You're just looking through tons and tons of music until you find just the record you want. You don't care about the number one album on the charts because you want to find the album that isn't number one, even though it deserves to be. It's the music that everyone looks over because they are too busy looking at the same thing as everyone else." I smiled at him as he spoke about it.

Dani- "How do you know all this?" He laughed then responded.

Cole- "I may not be a big musician like you, but that doesn't mean I'm clueless when it comes to music." He said still giggling.

Dani- "And how do you know that I'm a musician?" His cheeks turned slightly red, causing mine to do the same.

Cole- "My sister just told me. She talks a lot so she just kind of tells me everything." He said trying to play it off.

Dani- "Well, I guess since you know so much about music you're going to have to teach me something."

He saw my phone in my hand. He grabbed it and spoke up.

Cole- "Here... Here's my number. And when you want to go find some real music, let me know." He said smiling shyly once more as he finished typing in his number.

I looked at him trying not to blush but it's hard for me to hide my reactions.

In that moment, the youth group service started so we made our way to go sit in and listen. He sat on the opposite side of the room with his friends, will I sat with mine.

He's quiet and shy but he just showed this beam of confidence that made me even more interested in him. I can't figure him out yet, but I'm going too.
