"Good morning, _______." The receptionist greeted as soon as you entered the building. You just nodded and smiled in return, quickly walking towards the elevator because you were already late for your check-up with Dr. Kim, your neurologist.
Thankfully, the elevator ride took only a few seconds, and as soon as the doors opened, you walked straight to the information desk.
"Hi, I have a schedule with Dr. Kim Seokjin, 9:00?"
"Oh, hi ______! How are you today?" The nurse smiled with familiarity.
"Better, I guess." You said with uncertainty, while she dialed something on the telephone.
"Better is good. I do hope you get well soon." You just smiled, but her attention shifted as the phone suddenly clicked. "Hello, Dr. Kim? ______ is already here for her check-up... Okay. Got it, thanks."
She hung up the phone and turned back to you with the same familiar smile. "He's in his office. He's been waiting for you."
You nodded and gave a small thanks as you walked straight to the same office you've been going to for the past few months. After the many times you've been here, this feels like a normal routine already. Well, that is ever since that... incident.
You knocked on the door a few times before hearing that familiar voice telling you to come in. Taking in a deep breath, you opened the door, and immediately saw Dr. Kim sitting on his desk, a clipboard in hand.
"Good morning," he smiled.
You fought the urge to clutch your chest as soon as you saw that smile. For some reason, your heart starts going crazy everytime you see Dr. Kim. Sure, he was undeniable handsome. But it seemed like what you were feeling was more than just nervousness around him.
"Good morning, Dr. Kim." you mumbled as you sat in front of his desk.
"Ah, I told you to just call me Jin." He playfully sighed. "At this point, it's already like just visiting a friend."
You just smiled. You could tell he was doing this just to lighten the approach on your situation. But actually, you felt thankful for his efforts. After all, this amnesia has made it really hard for you to comprehend your life, considering that you couldn't remember what happened in the past three years of your life. It was like a huge puzzle piece missing, and you couldn't find it no matter how hard you looked. And without it, so many things didn't make sense.
"So, how are you doing lately?"
You sighed, knowing what that question actually meant. "I still don't remember anything. I don't have the headaches anymore, but still, nothing."
"It's okay. We can't force your memories to come back. One day, you'll just be surprised you'll remember something."
He smiled, but you saw a flash of sadness in his eyes.
"Well then, onto the next step. You know the drill. If the word seems to trigger something, tell me, okay?"
You nodded. Jin cleared his throat and prepared to read whatever was on the clipboard.
"Apple," he paused, but you shook your head. You felt your heart drop at the possibility that this will be another failed session, because you've heard these set of words but still, all you remember are old memories, but nothing that seemed to belong in those three missing years.
