annabeth-

Even with Khione's reassuring, I felt like something bad was lurking around camp. Like an oncoming storm.

Everything was too quiet. It reminded me of a book I had read, Roll of Thunder Hear my Cry.

All was well, then a friend was to be hanged, and the corn crops set on fire.

When I mentioned my metaphor to Piper and Khione, they were just confused.

I sat in my cabin, bed a complete mess. Everyone knew to stay back, even Malcom. And that boy never listens.

I pull out my sketch book and begin drawing. It always soothes my nerves when I drew, even if it was some depressing morbid creature. And when I wasn't drawing humans I drew monsters and buildings.

One stroke up. A curve, stroke down.

I didn't even realize until I was finished that it was a perfect portrait of Luke Castellan.

For the first time in a while, I began to cry about Luke. He was my older brother. We'd been through thick and thin and he just disappeared.

The cries were taken over by hiccuping sobs. Something bad was happening. Going to happen, really.

I could tell. The force field was weakening, Pelus was exhausted from midnight monsters sneaking in. Nobody noticed.

Half my friends were either depressed, near dead, or in Hazel's case, acting extremely weird.

And I prayed every night, every dinner, breakfast, that the gods would assist us. But they weren't, obviously.

They sat on their primordial asses watching as the 'puny' humans risked their lives for them.

I was so deep in thought, I didn't even hear the conch horn go off.

"Hey Annabeth, Annabeth, Annabeth!" Eliana shook my shoulder. I reached for my knife, but realized it was just Ellie.

"Sorry, sorry. What's the matter?"

She raised an eyebrow, along with 70% of the people in the room. She looked back at them, and then to me.

"It's dinner.." she said, obviously worried. I waved my hand,

"Go ahead, I'll be there in a second."

They all piled out of the room, but I never made it. As soon as my eyes closed, dreams fought their way in.

I was in a dark room. Black curtains blocked any slither of sunlight from coming in, electric fire burned on torches lined the walls, and the interior looked as though it was made of pure obsidian.

"But you promised not them! You chose all the ones I said not to do!" A vaguely familiar female voice shouted.

They were in the corridor hidden by a corner. At least I assumed there were more than one. Whoever the girl was, she couldn't have been talking to herself.

"I'm sorry my dear, but see? We got rid of the strongest three. Now, all you have to do is get rid of the girl. Then I will pay my side of the bargain."
