Chapter 30

Renee's POV

A sea of people made their way over to the pub, pushing Louis and I along with them.

I still hadn't seen Lacy yet, and it was seriously starting to piss me off. Where the hell was she? She couldn't be far. For all I know, she could already be drunk.

Louis and I stopped by the amusement park's exit to grab our fancy clothing. I slung my duffel bag over my shoulder and ran to where Louis was waiting for me.

"Excited?" he asked. He was holding a briefcase, of all things. I decided not to question him about it.

"Definitely," I replied. "But more than anything I just want to see Lacy. So I can kick her ass to hell."

Louis laughed. "Geez, Renee, calm down," he soothed me. "It looks like Lacy has tons of friends, and it's her twenty-first birthday. She's probably busy."

"But I'm her best friend," I whined. "Shouldn't I be on her list?"

"You'll get to see her soon enough," Louis assured me. "She can't stay hidden forever."

By now we were making our way towards the pub, which was still crammed with people. Sometimes I wished Lacy wasn't so damn friendly all the time. How many friends did she have?

Inside the dark pub, there was a bar to my right, and a seating area to my left. Almost directly in front of me was a dance floor, along with a DJ. Lacy's dream come true. I couldn't help but smile.

People weren't getting dressed up yet. They were either talking, laughing, or drinking already. Still no Lacy. Where was that girl?

"Hello, my beautiful and wonderful guests!" a female voice boomed around the pub.

My eyes widened. It was Lacy! I shook Louis back and forth. "It's her! It's her!" I gasped.

Louis pushed me off of him and held a finger to his lips. I calmed down.

I looked at the DJ, but Lacy wasn't there, speaking into a microphone. She was still hidden. I scowled.

"I hope you guys had fun at the amusement park!" Lacy continued. "I know I had a great time with all of you!"

There was a chorus of "yeah!"s from everyone else, but my jaw dropped.

"What?" I screeched, earning a few stares. "I didn't get to see you, you freaking bitch! Come out right now!"

"Renee, calm down," Louis murmured in my ear. "People are starting to glare at us."

That wasn't enough for me. I wanted to see her, my best friend. I wanted to see her so badly it made me want to cry.

Lacy laughed, like she had heard me. Had she?

"Don't worry, Rainy," she cooed. She had! "I'll see you soon enough. I knew you were crazy about me all along!"

I stuck my tongue out at her voice while more people stared at me. They didn't know what was going on, but I did, and I thought it was silly.

"You guys should go get your fancy dresses and suits and stuff on!" Lacy cried. "Let's get this party started!"

Her friends whooped in agreement. When Lacy didn't say anything more, apparently bored with us, they left. They went out to change, get their clothes, or whatever.

"I'll meet you exactly right here," I told Louis, jabbing my finger at the ground. "Don't ditch me."

He rolled his eyes playfully. "I don't know...." he mused. "I don't think I want to go to the dance with a crazy lady."
