Chapter 1
My mom pulled up to our new home in Australia. Why my mother chose Australia as a place to move to I will never know.
I got out of the car and grabbed my belongings heading towards the house. It was a beautiful house of two stories. The outside held a small lawn with a flower bed boarding the front of the lawn and the walk way up towards the house. I smiled as I noticed a small tree in the center of the lawn with a swing attached reminding me of my childhood.
I entered the house and was taken back by how beautiful it was. As you entered the house there was a closet to your left for you to place your coats. As you stepped further inside the right side opened up into a large living room. There was a grand piano in the corner and two black leather sofas facing towards each other so anyone sitting down could hold a conversation with one another. A glass table filled the space between the two sofas. As you turned left there was a spiral staircase leading upstairs. Downstairs also held a kitchen with stainless steel appliances and a large refrigerator, something I could definitely put to good use, as well as a bathroom and a spare room we could convert into a guest bedroom. I walked upstairs and claimed my bedroom. There were four to choose from so I chose the second largest. I began to unpack setting clothes in my closet and my various band posters across the wall. I smiled as I completed my room, it looking just as it had back in England, if not bigger.
I went back to my luggage and took out my picture frames and my smile fell. I was going to need to replace these pictures, I thought. A single tear fell down my face. I miss her so much. Me and Aurelia. We were both smilling, we looked so happy. I still remember all the memories I had with her.
My thoughts where interrupted as I heard the doorbell ring. I put the picture down, and went downstairs to open the door. I almost fell down the stairs on the way there though. I groaned and opened the door to see a very pretty girl, with long, blonde her and with a huge smile on her face. "Hi! I'm Viviana!" I frowned slightly and she caught it before I could smile.
"I'm your neighbor." She continued. "My mom told me to bring you these." She held out a plate of cookies and I felt my mouth water. Viviana laughed and handed them to me before I took her extended hand and introduced myself.
"I'm Scarlett. Um...would you like to come in?" I offered. She smiled and nodded her head. I moved to the side giving her room to walk in as I went to the kitchen and set the cookies down on the island.
I ran a hand through my long light brown hair and decided to show her around my house a bit, but she was so fascinated by the grand piano in the corner of the living room that we didn't get far.
"Do you play?" She asked.
"A little. I took lessons when I was young before I moved to guitar and singing." I shrugged as her mouth dropped in awe.
"I wish I could play. I play some piano, not a whole lot. I'd love to play guitar since you can't really play any Nirvana or Blink 182 songs on the piano without ruining the song."
"I think you could."
"Well I know The Man Who Sold The World on piano." A smile slowly crept onto my lips. That was my favorite Nirvana song.
"Would you mind playing?" She shook her head no and sat down at the piano slowly letting her fingers move over the keys before she began to play. I thought she was just going to be an amateur with the way she talked, yet she exceeded my expectations. Her slender fingers moved gracefully over the keys and I instantly picked up the tune knowing exactly where she was in the song. I started to hum to the tune of the song before I couldn't hold myself back and began to sing along.
"I laughed and shook his hand.
And made my way back home.
I searched for form and land.
For years and years I roamed.
I gazed a gaze-less stare.
We walked a million hills.
I must have died alone.
A long, long time ago.
Who knows?
Not me.
I never lost control.
You're face to face.
With the man who sold the world."
The song came to a close and my smile stretched across my face.
"That was beautiful." I breathed. She smiled a small blush crept up onto her cheeks as she closed the piano.
"Thanks. You're amazing, as well." I shrugged and led her up towards my bedroom sitting on the bed as she joined me.
"What school are you attending?" I pointed to a pamphlet that was out in my desk with the schools name across the front. A smile came across her face.
"Guess what?" I looked over at her. "I go there too!!" She squealed.
She was so hyper and loud but it suited her. It didn't really annoy me, which really surprises me. I usually get annoyed with loud people easily, but this time was different. She seems different. Different from me. I'm the quiet one. I used to be just like her though, always happy, enjoying life, but since my best-friend died... everything has changed. I try to get away from people as much as possible, because it's the only way of me staying calm and relaxed. I don't like people and I don't think it's going to ever change. Maybe one day... but not soon. Viviana glanced over at the clock.
"Shoot, I have to go, but it was nice meeting you! See you at school tomorrow!" She hugged me and went on her merry way home. Maybe this wasn't going to be so bad after all.
