Chapter 5

The walk to Ashton's house was silent. It consisted of him walking a ways ahead of me as I trailed behind. I didn't mind, it gave me time to think to myself. I looked up at the vast blue sky and sighed.

I missed Aurelia. I missed her a lot. It was times like these she would put me at ease and lift my spirits. She was my sister and I lost her. I forced back my emotions and looked straight towards Ashton. His back muscles flexed beneath this thin shirt and he slowly stretched turning around to peek back at me.

"Here we are." Ashton said gesturing to his house.

It was about two stories tall and white. He had a small front lawn bordered by a flower bed. A small balcony hovered over the walk way and I noticed Eric sitting at his door.

"What took you so long?" Ashton pushed his way inside his house without acknowledging Eric. I apologetically turned towards Eric.

"Sorry it was my fault. Something happened, but everything's fine now." I half smiled and looked towards the house a wave of nerves enveloping me.

"Shall we go inside?" Eric suggested and I nodded before following Ashton's lead into the house.

The house was breathtaking. You walk inside and find two doors to your right; one led to the garage and the other was a coat closet. You walk further down the hall and are met with stairs to your left, but as you continued inside the walls opened up to a large room. A kitchen with the finest appliances and granite counter tops occupied a small section of the room. The other part of the room held two couched pointed towards a giant television. A sliding glass door showed a backyard with a large swimming pool. I admired his house more and turned almost running into Ashton.

"Sorry," I said, but he didn't respond.

"So um.. " I started awkwardly. His house was large I didn't know where to go and Ashton was acting weird. As usual anyway. "Are we gonna go to your room?" I asked and looked at him but he ignored me for few seconds and then waved his hand for me to follow. Eric was behind me.

"Do you really think I would let you both into my room?" He snapped. I shrugged my shoulders and waited a bit for Eric so I could catch up with him. Ashton was scaring me; he hates me for no reason.

Ashton escorted us out back and rounded the corner. Eric and I followed him close behind as he took us to what looked like a shed. He took out a pair of keys and unlocked the door before opening it. Inside was bigger than what the outside had to offer. There was a pair of drums set up with various guitars on stands varying from electric to acoustic.

I walked inside and my finger tips trailed over a key board that was towards the front of the room. All the instruments took my breath away and I could just spend my whole life in here if I was allowed. I turned towards the door and found Ashton and Eric no where to be seen.

I peeked my head out of the door and found them back in Ashton’s house. I returned towards the room and sat down on a stool picking up an acoustic guitar. I checked to make sure it was tuned before I took a deep breath and sang.

It all goes back to the first kiss It was the one I thought I'd never miss Maybe we were one of the lucky ones Maybe I'm just not quite strong enough

I smiled to myself as I sang my favorite Mayday Parade song. I closed my eyes and let my soul be taken by the song.

This was supposed to be the easy part But breaking down is what I found hard Now I'm wearing this smile that I don't believe in Inside I feel like screaming

I sang my heart out nailing every note and chord. I hadn’t sung like this in a while, and it felt good. Singing and playing music was my release from stress and sorrow. I wasn’t thinking about Aurelia, nor had I noticed the figure standing at the doorway listening to every word I sang.
