10 years old

"Come on Stumpy!" Charlie cried.

It was the middle of the Summer, the sun was out and the shouts of kids could be heard all over.

Two of these kids were Patrick and Charlie. They were racing through the streets on Charlie's brother and sister's second hand bikes. They were rusty but they didn't care.

Charlie laughed in delight as her hair flew behind her as she cycled at speed down the street. Patrick was slightly behind her, but he was still having fun.

"Stop calling me Stumpy!" Patrick shouted.

"Never!"

There was many problems with the bikes they were using. But nothing had seemed to be going wrong until Charlie realised she was going to go head first into the pavement. She was going too fast.

And surprise, surprise, the brakes weren't working.

"Help!" She was sent hurtling off the bike and she shouted in pain as she connected with the pavement.

"Charlie!" Patrick caught up with Charlie and jumped off his bike and ran towards her.

Charlie's ankle was twisted in an awkward position and there was blood on her knee. But she wasn't crying, because she was Charlie.

"Patrick, it hurts!" She exclaimed.

"Oh no, Charlie I told you to stop going so fast."

"I know."

"Why didn't you stop?"

"I don't know." Charlie tried to get up but winced and had to lie down again.

"You're really brave."

"I know."

"But you can't walk. You'll get hurt more."

"I know. But I have to go home."

"I'll carry you."

"Patrick, you can't do that, you'll hurt yourself."

"I'm carrying you."

"Pat, no offence, but you're not strong enough."

"Don't call me Pat! And besides, I am strong enough."

"No you're not."

"Am too."

"Why don't I just put my arm on your shoulder?"

"Oh-okay, that would probably be easier."

Patrick helped Charlie up and she rested her arm on his shoulders. They would have to walk for a while. Patrick had his arm wrapped around Charlie's back and his other hand was holding onto his bike. He said it was pointless to bring the other one as the bike was in worse condition than Charlie.

"You know Patrick, you're like a superhero." Charlie grinned.

"Really?"

"Ya, you are. You're my superhero."

"Can I get a reward for saving you?"

"Definitely. You can be the first person to sign my cast. I think I broke my ankle, so I'll get a cast. It's what happened when my sister broke her arm."

"Okay. That's a great reward. Can I draw pictures on it?"

"Yes. I can't wait."

Sorry the chapter is short. But they will get longer.

Hope you liked it anyway. Xx
