I wake up to the sweet smell of waffles and syrup. I slowly sit up still a little bit groggy from helping the distribution yesterday night. The shipments came oddly late but I didn't mind too much. I get out of my bunk bed and see Alicia has made a drool pond on her pillow. I'll have to tell Pakston when I see him. I search through my bureau for my assigned Saturday outfit and matching pair of shoes. As I struggle to pull off my night shirt I notice someone looking at me
"Need a little help there, birthday girl?" Snickered Leighton.
"No, I'm good. I didn't even remember it was today." I said slipping on my light blue shirt with a small pocket.
"How could I forget that it was my favorite person in the galaxy's birthday? I've been waiting for days to give you this." He said confidently.
He hands me a rectangular blue velvet box with a small moon on it. I look up at him and smile. He smiles right back showing off his white pearl like teeth. I open the box and see a silver necklace with a moon on it. Without hesitating I fall into his arms, his warm hands around my waist and his smooth breathes trickling down my neck. We stand there, lost in time with nothing on our minds but each other. As he releases me and from his arms, I gaze straight into his eyes.
"I'm so hungry, can we get breakfast now?" I say in a very serious voice.
"No." He cackles as we start to walk toward the kitchen.
When we get to the kitchen I am surprised by a tower of waffles dripping with syrup with a candle on top. Alicia comes over a immediately and gives me a big hug.
"Happy birthday" she whispers in my ear. "Thanks Alicia." I mumble back.
I sit down on a stool with a zigzag cushion pattern with little tennis balls at the end. Louisa pushes my plate over to me, carefully not to wreck the culinary masterpiece she has create. "Can I have another plate please?" I ask. She hands me an empty plate that I push over to Leighton. I take my fork and balance the half of the waffles and flip them onto his plate.
"Thanks."Leighton smiles, and puts his arm around me. "Hey afterward...Can we talk?" He asks shyly staring down at the floor. I nod and dig into the big waffle tower. "Hey! We got to light the candle!" Alicia screams. She breaks out laughing and wipes the match against its box. "Don't worry I covered the cameras so SCA won't punish us for having an unsupervised fire."Alicia adds.
"That's the biggest pest control in the world. The cameras are everywhere! I can't even shower without them spying on me." Leighton rolls his eyes and with that I blow out candle. As I finish the last bites of my waffles, Leighton signals me under the table pointing to the main room. The main room is complete with three white couches in the middle and a mahogany coffee table. There used to be a television but one day SCA officers wearing their all black uniforms took it away. That was then end of that.
He takes my hand and sits me down on the couch. Still holding my hand he gazes into my eyes. He is serious, and it is very unlike him.
"Caleigh, I'm not sure where this is going." He says hesitantly.
"This?" I question
"Us." He replies.
