" So your pack..where do I find them?" I ask as a hot cup of coffee is placed in my hands. Cameron slept on the couch last night after I passed out, I didn't wake up till evening, shocked I jumped out of bed to the smell of coffee, I'm not very pleased that Cameron did sleep over, but since he gave me my space, instead of thinking he could climb in bed with me because we are "supposedly mates", and I don't know how any of that is suppose to work, I'm glad I woke up alone.
I look over at Cameron drinking his coffee, well almost alone.
"You're not gonna answer my question?" I ask aggravated my wolf slowly showing an appearance through my voice.
"When you're done with your coffee and aren't so grouchy then I'll answer your questions." Cameron smirks and grabs the remote off the table to switch on the t.v.
I hear something vibrate as my eyes scan over the table to see a silver phone, Cameron picks it up and suddenly stands up at the sound of the voice on the other end.
"What's wrong?" I ask to hear only incoherent mumbling from the speaker by his ear. After a minute Cameron hangs up and heads towards the door.
"I thought we was going to talk." I say confused.
" Somethings come up I have to leave." He says one hand on the door, he stands like there is an internal battle going on before walking out, I get up and follow my feet stopping at the opening of the door.
"So that's it then, you're just gonna leave, are you coming back?" I ask goose bumps forming on my bare arms as I stand there waiting for a response.
"I don't know if I can." Cameron says not looking at me his body rigid.
" So what... is this what we do with our mates hmm, we come to them, try to be all smartassy, tell them we basically belong together and just leave, after throwing a huge bombshell that they can't possibly deal with alone?" I say to his rigid back pissed.
I hope he can feel my eyes burning into his back.
" Oh what you can't even look at your mate." I spit out the word mate like it's a poison. " Look at me, Cameron." I order the beast inside turning.
He flinches at his name but that's the only movement he gives, before turning back into a statute.
" Sometimes Violet things come up that are out of my control, that I have to do, this is one of them." And without even turning, he walks away.
I stand there half stunned, half afraid, and really pissed off.
" If you think you're just gonna walk off, then you have another thing coming." I choke back the anger, anger that he knows all of these things that I don't know and yet he's going to leave, abandon me here with just more questions left unanswered. I chase after him until I'm blocking his path.
" Get out of my way, Violet." He says looking straight ahead.
"No, not into you tell me why." I say definitely like a two year old that doesn't want to give up their way.
"You can let me leave, or I can force you to." Cameron says his eyes turning silver.
Psshhhh two can play it that way bud.
I can feel the heat flowing through my body like a hot lava slowing filling up my veins before I erupt.
" Bring it on. " I growl.
I see a blur of dark hair and sky before I'm on the ground, I can feel the cold grass on my skin and smell the wet dirt, thunder rumbles in the background, as the rain starts to drizzle around us. I feel it land on my hair before sizzling out, my body heat evaporating it quickly.
"Stay down, Violet." He whispers in my ear, and I shutter but not out of lust this time, out of anger how dare he think he can control me.
"NEVER" I scream pushing my hands against his chest and throwing him into the air, he lands into the field a few yards away with a loud thump as grass kicks up, and the rain begins to pour. The rain is like my emotions, calm,a drizzle, and now a storm, like a hurricane, my self is the calm, but the beast, the hurricane, has now begun to take over, to roam free causing nothing but destruction and chaos in its path.
I run to him as he quickly gets to his feet, his eyes silver, his teeth bare. " I don't have a choice in this Violet, I am leaving, if that involves a few bruises then so be it."He growls, more beast than human.
That's when he begins to shudder, right before my eyes I see the change it is something I could never describe in its beautiful horror.
Black fur, the same fur I saw on the beast I chased into the forest, with the same green forest eyes I got lost in, succumbed in by lust for, watches me waiting for me to move so it can pounce, waiting for the perfect moment to attack.
Everything is so quiet,a deathly quiet, but the rain, the rain pours down around us as we stand there in the battlefield, no one moving.
I stare at Cameron , well Cameron's wolf, frozen. Would he actually hurt me over a phone call? Can he really hurt his mate? My questions rattle through my head, I want answers.
We need answers. My beast growls.
I move, then I hear it the cracking in the night.
A gunshot.
I blink the sound temporarily bringing me back to reality, back to my humanity.
I open my eyes to an empty field in front of me, overwhelmed, emotions flood through me as I collapse, the fire smoking out and leaving me feeling like a wet match. My eyes stay open long enough to see a shadow above me.
" It's going to be alright now, the beast is gone." The voice whispers incoherently to my now abandoned body, I'm nothing but a shell now. I feel empty like something has been torn apart, like my eternal internal fire is gone, completely.
My beast is gone.
