The invitation was delivered the day after I visited Godwin:
Join Crowose and James in a celebration!
Two days from now, in the Dining Hall to see them get married!
Hope to see you there!
How could they even think about getting married during these dangerous times? I had completely forgotten that they had been engaged!
When I arrived at the Dining Hall the day before the wedding, it was completely transformed with white chairs facing the far end, a white carpet leading up to a platform that would be the alter. Pink flowers were everywhere, petals scattering the floor. Katie was also inspecting the decorations.
"The best part about weddings," she told me, "is the cake at the reception." I laughed and she couldn't help but join me.
The morning of the wedding, Taylor was dressed in a pale pink dress, with sleeves that stayed on top of her shoulders. It went down to her knees and she wore golden high heels. I wore a pale yellow dress with silver flats; I haven't mastered heels yet. My dress was the same style as Taylor's.
We got seats in the Dining Hall next to the aisle, near the front. Katie sat with us, wearing a black dress. "It's not a funeral, Katie," Taylor joked.
"This is the only decent dress I had," Katie replied, "I absolutely hate fancy clothing!"
Dr. Gwen stood next to the alter with the priest and beautiful music created by a harp and piano began to play.
First the family walked down the aisle as if in slow motion and took their seats in the front row. Photographers were capturing every second as the music played. Then we saw the bride after the three-year-old flower girl (Crowose's niece, as I had learned later) who dropped her basket of pink flower petals all in one spot.
Crowose's hair was in a high bun and she wore an extremely long veil that was connected to a glittering headband. She wore an A-shape dress that billowed around her and dragged behind. There were sparkling beads that created designs all over the strapless dress. The front was raised high enough so that everyone could see her sparkling blue heels. Crowose didn't appear to be wearing too much makeup, though the light pink flowers that the flower girl had dropped matched her lipstick. She looked like the happiest person alive, all smiles as she walked. She gazed into her husband-to-be's eyes and nowhere else as she strolled down the aisle. Then she came to stand next to him, their backs to the crowd. Crowose's dress spread out behind her, falling down the steps that led from the floor to the alter.
The music stopped and the priest spoke. Crowose's sister, Amelia, said a few words after that and a song played that everyone sang along with.
"We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory, Lord God, Heavenly King, O God, almighty Father."
