~~~~~Sophie POV~~~~~~~
He just lost it. I couldn't blame him either. To be ignored by your own family, at least Ben was alright.
My feet stung every step i took as I followed Chris down the steep incline. He calmed down more the further he got away. When the house was out of sight he stopped. This was my chance to talk to him.
"Chris, you all right?" My hand rested on his cheek and his eyes were blank. No emotions no feelings. It was like he just left.
"Please talk to me," I said trying to sound calm. Nothing.
"You have to wake up, please!" now I was scared he never moved and spoke for a long time. His knees began to buckle under him. He crouched there gasping for breaths and coughing. I kneeled down and lifted him face to mine.
"Where have you been, you scared me to death," a silent tear fell down my cheek.
"Don't cry, I was being kicked out the pack. We've only got 3 hours to get of his land. We are now officially rouges." He looked broken. His mind was still somewhere else still.
"Come on we gotta go," he sped off forwards. My wolf wanted out to run away from here. It was no longer a warm and welcome place.
We reached the edge of the highway. It was quieter than usual with only a couple of freight trucks full of cattle and sheep. Broken bottles and discarded KFC boxes scattered across the drainage making the dead grass barely visible.
Maybe this wasn't such a great idea, Chris's shaken voice echoed in my head. It was still strange hearing him, all of this was strange.
I just saw the edge of a river. It could be on the edge of my grandpa's land but I doubt it. We hadn't been walking that far. Our feet pounded on the tarmac in sync while we sprinted across.
Once we hit the flat grasslands our journey seemed to only get longer. Every second the sun beat down at record temperature like it was the end of December. (mid summer here is then to all northern hemisherers) The lack of drinking water didn't help much either.
The sun began to set sending an array of purple and reds across the darkening sky. I spotted stars flickering creating a photographers dream.
"Where a bouts are we? Are we off their territory?" I asked trying to make it as few questions as possible. He eyes glanced across the roads and fields.
"Yeah," his throat cracked and spluttered to get used to talking again, "we have maybe 5 more kilometers to go till we reach town." A large pine forest covered the track ahead. It made me want to run with my coat flowing in the soft breeze. I could tell Chris had the same idea. But I saw faint lights ahead from a house.
Wait… I know that house. Oh thank god I know them. My feet were already moving beneath me, grinding against the dry gravel and dirt clumps. My hands clamped on Chris's soaked T-shirt. He stumbled but started to follow me closely. I spied the ragged ponies grazing in the back paddock with sweat marks on their backs.
"NICKY!! KATIE!! I'm home!!"
Two faces popped out the window that slammed shut in an instant while they forced the door open and ran straight for me. It would've been mistaken for an attack. I was strangled in arms, them not having a second thought of letting go.
