Okay. I don’t want to limit my reviews sa Wattpad stories lang. Story pa rin naman ‘to so might as well include it here.
First impression ko sa book? Meh. Parang wala lang. I saw it na hawak ng isang high school student habang nakasakay kami sa jeep. Sabi ko pa, “Comics ba ‘yun?” Fine. Kinain ko ang mga sinabi ko. I feel bad and stupid for judging a book without even reading it first.
The title, I realized, is very catchy and beautiful. It gives you a hint that the story is kind of… tragic. Ang talino ng writer nito na si John Green kase magagawa ka nyang lituhin kung baliw ka at una mong binasa yung last line ng story sa last page nito. Seriously, I’m one of those people who tend to spoil themselves by finding out the ending of a story first before reading it so that I won’t get disappointed (or hurt).
Confident na ‘ko na alam ko na yung kahihinatnan ng story kaso a friend of mine told me that it goes the other way around. And as I read the story, kala ‘ko successful na ‘ko at di na ‘ko maiiyak (ayoko kase masyadong madrama) but then, hindi talaga maiiwasan.
Hazel Grace Lancaster’s character is so adorable. Una kong naappreciate yung personality nya nung nagcomment sya about sa live kissing scene ng Support Group friend nyang si Isaac at yung girlfriend nito. I find it cute na tinawag nyang Phillip yung isa sa mga machines na ginagamit sa treatment nya. And I can’t help but respect her kasi hindi sya tulad nung ibang characters sa mga nabasa ko na may cancer din wherein nagmamatapang yung mga bida. Well, nothing’s wrong with that pero kay Hazel kasi, bago sa’kin yung makita mo syang dinadown yung sarili nya at the same time, like Augustus, I find it heroic na mas gusto nyang konti lang ang makakaalala sakanya.
Augustus Waters. Oh fine. Sya na ata ang man of my dreams. Para sa’kin, opposite sila ni Hazel in a way na sya yung nagmamatapang. It’s like façade nya lang yung confidence nyang ‘yun pero deep inside lies a vulnerable kid. Pareho naman sila ni Hazel pagdating sa perception nila sa buhay. Everytime he says “Hazel Grace”, kinikilig ako ng bongga. Para bang dahil sakanya, ‘yun na yung pinakamagandang pangalan sa buong mundo. I love him, really. Napaka-ideal guy nya. Only if he exists…*sigh*
Gusto ko yung mga lines nila dito. Ang lalim at may pinaghuhugutan talaga. May times na matatawa ka, as if the author is trying to overwhelm you with happiness so that you could be prepare enough and it won’t hurt that much in case yung mga susunod na scenes ay masyadong heartbreaking. There are two lines na talagang iniyakan ko. Here they are:
"I'll write you an epilogue." –Augustus
"You gave me a forever within the numbered days." –Hazel Grace
Sobrang ganda ng kwentong ‘to and words aren’t enough to describe this book. Justr read it. Hindi kayo madidisappoint.
