"it's been a long day without you my friend. and I'll tell you all about when I see you again." "God, please bring him home safely. I need him." I prayed. I plugged my phone into the aux cord and played Trust in You by Lauren Daigle. that's exactly what I needed to do right now, trust in God that he would bring my brother, Lucas, home safe. Lucas is 22 years old and he is currently serving in the Army. last time I talked to him, he was in Afghanistan, but then again that was about 3 months ago. Lucas and I are extremely close. we grew even closer when our parents died when Lucas was 18 and I was 14. we have no other living family and Lucas didn't have a steady job so we didn't have enough money to keep paying the bills on our 2500 square foot house. Lucas and I went to a close family friend who is a lawyer and he recommended foster care because we would both be out of it fairly quickly. I was disgusted at the thought. was he kidding!? I wasn't going to be shuffled around to 6 different houses every 2 months. that was no way to live and I know that the family would try to console me and my brother. they didn't know what it felt like to lose both your mom and dad at the same time. no one understood the pain I was feeling. no one except for Coach Matt. coach matt was the head coach of the football team at Corpus Christi High school in Texas. Our lawyer knew him and one day he was talking to coach matt and his 2 sons about us. Matt was incredibly kind and said he would be honored to take us in. we moved in about 2 months after our parents death on May 27. Coach has 2 sons, Jake and Drew. Jake is my brothers age and Drew is mine. now Drew and I are seniors in high school!! Drew is the star wide receiver and I am the first bag on the golf team. Drew's best friend is the starting shortstop on the baseball team. his name is Dylan. even thinking about his name sends chills down my spine.
