That night I told Terrel all about it. He seemed worried about his life and mine. We didn't want to call the police just in case. I slept very close to him that night. In the middle of the night gunshots went off.

"GET DOWN NOW!," Terrel boomed. We crawled around on the floor. Something banged against the window and slid down. I looked at the window a man laid there and blood slid down the window. I backed away, Terrel cradled me in his arms. The gunshots ended and headlights from cars faded away. I called the police Terrel went to check on the man outside.

"He's dead," Terrel said.

"Do you know who he is," I whispered.

"It's my dad," Terrel stiffened up. I spoke to the officer. Once i got off the phone I sat with Terrel on the couch. Police and ambulance sirens wailed outside.

"Is there anyone you know that could give us a lead on this case," officer Harley asked.

"No," I replied

"Well for your safety we're going to have to ask you to move out only temporarily so we can start investigation with your permission of course."

"I think we can do that," I smiled.

"Ok you guys can pack up and I can call someone to pick you up," she smiled. I nodded and got Terrel out of his state of shock. We packed and sat at the front door. Jewel ran up to me and hugged me.

"Terrel baby boy!" someone called from behind us.

"Ma you aren't suppose to be out of bed," Terrel helped his mother before she fell.

"Baby boy are you ok is everyone ok where's your father," she asked.

"Dad's gone he was shot," Terrel ran his hand through his mother's hair.

"Terrel don't play with me boy. Where's your father."

"Mama he's dead."

"WHAT DID THEY DO TO MY HUSBAND. WHY IS HE DEAD,"she sobbed.

"I'm so sorry Mrs.Banks," I hugged her.

"Mrs.Banks I think it would be safe for you to stay with your daughter," Officer Harley suggested.

"I'm fine with that but I want answers to why my husband is dead, " Mrs.Banks said.

"We'll get to you as soon as possible with those answers, but can you get into the car I'll take you to your daughter's house," Officer Harley smiled.

A nurse put Mrs.Banks in a wheelchair and wheeled her to the squad car. Terrel wiped his tears and we walked to Jewel's car. We sat in the car in silence. I looked at Terrel and curled my hand around his. Jewel looked back at us before pulling off.

Once we arrived , Jewel directed us to the basement and set up the bed with sheets and blankets. She walked back upstairs to her room. Terrel laid in the bed and covered himself. I laid next to him and fell asleep.
