Before long, it was Wednesday, when Lila had promised Kylie she would go to the mall with her after school. Lila was still trying to interpret the last task she must do. But, apparently, instead of that, she was left to walk around in Milwaukee. "Lila!" Kylie sang as she ran up behind her. "It's mall day!" She exclaimed. Inwardly Lila groaned, but didn't let Kylie know that. "Yay! A mall!" She said in the best happy voice she could muster. Kylie laughed. "Somewhere, there is a part of you that loves the mall, and I know it. I'll meet you here after school!" Kylie said, and she ran, giggling into school.
Lila often wondered why a girl like Kylie was her best friend, or only friend actually. She supposed it was because Kylie wouldn't leave her alone. Lila smiled as she walked into class. It would maybe be a good day after all. Maybe she could trick Kylie into letting her go to the bookstore alone, so she could get another book to help her with her last task. And if not, well, at least Kylie was going to pay for her dinner, so she'd get a meal out of it.After school was over Lila looked around the crowed hall ways for her best friend. After looking for a minute, Lila stopped at her locker, and grabbed her homework assignments. "Uggg, don't I have enough fairy homework? I don't need this." She thought to herself. "Oh well, maybe I can convince Kylie to do it with me."
Lila closed her locker, and then once again looked around the now slightly less crowed hallway. "Lila!" Kylie yelled. Then she laughed at something one of her friends said. That's right, if you haven't figured it out yet, Kylie is one of the popular kids. Another reason Lila wondered why Kylie was her friend.
Kylie waved to her friends and made her way over to Lila quickly, people moved out of her way so she could. "Hey girl. You ready for some serious shopping?" Kylie asked. Lila smiled. "I don't have a choice, do I?" She asked. Kylie laughed. "Nope!" She said, and dragged Lila out the school doors.
"Hello Mrs. Martian." Lila greeted Kylie's mother. "Hello Lila! Are you ready for some shopping?" She asked. Lila groaned. Both Kylie and her mother laughed. "Don't worry, I know you will like one of the places we are going." Mrs. Martian said. Lila looked at her. "You do?" She asked. The passenger door of the car opened. "Hey Lila!" Faith greeted. "Hey Faith! Please tell me I'm not going to be alone in this shopping torture." Lila said dramatically. Faith giggled. "I'm coming. Besides, there's a new smoothie shop!" She announced. Lila looked at her eagerly. "Really?" She asked. Mrs. Martian pulled out of the school parking lot. "Really." Faith said. Then she turned to her mother.
Faith looked just like her younger sister, they both had the same chestnut brown hair and brown eyes. But, personality wise, they couldn't be more different. Kylie was popular and outgoing, and Faith was much like Lila, shy and reserved.
Before too long, the four had made it to the large mall. "Hey, Mom, can Lila and I just go to the bookstore while you two shop?" Faith asked. Mrs. Martian smiled. "No, you two are coming with us. Besides, Faith, you need a dress for that dance, and Lila, you need a new skirt." She said. The four got out of the car and started walking to the entrance of the mall. Mrs. Martian was like a mother to Lila, and she always took her shopping. Lila supposed that probably was a good thing, her brother wasn't the best person for fashion advise.Lila sat on the fountain, Faith beside her. Mrs Martian and Kylie were at the counter of the smoothie shop, getting smoothies for all of them. "Faith, I'll be right back." Lila said, and stood up. For some reason, she felt that she needed to join her best friend. Faith nodded, and Lila walked over to the store. She saw a man inside, and Mrs. Martain, Kylie, and the salesgirl looked terrified. Lila's eyes widened and she almost gasped as she saw why. The man had a gun.
