Chapter 19: Dialogue

-Weeks later-

A couple of weeks had passed since we've came back.

The police kept questioning us and asking where exactly we've been.

We all kept the same story...We ran away because we wanted to take a trip away from everyone.

Of course they didn't believe us, but they did let us go.

When we had returned back to school, a lot of people kept asking where we we're and why did we leave.

-Bell Rings-

*In the cafeteria*

"These past couple of days have been awkward" Elijah said.

"What do you mean?" Keon asked.

He had leaned in closer to Keon and said "Do you not know how many people have asked me where I've been"

"Whats awkward about that?" Allison asked.

"Its awkward because people I've never even seen were asking me too" he said.

We all started laughing.

"...Man, I still can't believe that everything we went through...actually happened" Keon said.

"Yeah, its as if it was all just a really long bad dream" Allison said.

"Yeah, it felt very unreal...but I mean at least its over"

"Yeah" Elijah said.

-After school-

After we got off the bus, we stood at the bus stop.

"So what are y'all doing today?" Keon asked.

"I have nothing to do" Allison said.

"Imma just be bored" Elijah said.

"...Im actually going to the hospital"

"What for?" Keon asked.

"The doctor called this morning and said mom had brought things for my grandma...but since she passed...I thought I'd just go get them for my mom"

"Oh Okay. Well lets just go with you" Allison said.

"Are you sure?"

They nodded there heads and we headed to the hospital.

When we made it, I told the lady what I was here for and she led me to the room.

When I walked in the room, one of the doctors we're already in there.

"Um escuse me"

"..Oh I'm sorry, are you here for your grandma's things?" she asked.

"Um..yes"

When I looked at her, she looked like something was wrong.

I walked up to her and asked "Are you okay?"

She looked at me as if she wanted to tell me something.

"Did something happen?"

She didn't say anything, instead she went to close the door, then sat on the bed.

"Um...your uh...your grandma...She wasn't sick" she hesistated.

I was shocked...did I hear her right?

"Wait what? My grandma was sick, she was in the hospital, she looked really sick"

"Thats the thing. She looked sick, but she wasn't. I did a test on her when she passed, because I knew something was little off about her passing" she started.

"And what?"

"And it turns out that he body on the inside looked completely black and crushed" she said.

"Black and crushed? But isn't that signs of cancer?" Keon asked.

"Not necessarily. The way it looked didn't look like cancer, and I even checked and it wasn't cancer...that kind of thing just wasn't...possible" she said.

When I thought about it, It made me think about our journey.

Could that have something to do with this.

"And not to be rude, but I told your mother and she seemed to have been very angry with me and left. I assumed it was because of the fact that you grandma passed but...it didn't come off that way to me" she said.

This doesn't make any sense to me.

"But anyway, here's her stuff" she said.

I grabbed her stuff and thank her as we left.

As we left the hospital, I was still shocked.

"Ari" Keon said.

"Yeah...it just doesn't make sense. How can someone just die"

"Yeah it doesn't really make sense" Allison said.

"Um..thanks for coming with me. Imma just go home and ask my mom about it"

"Okay, text us" Keon said.

I nodded.

When I made it home I went upstairs to find my mom.

As I was walking down the hall, I heard her yelling at someone on speaker.

I leaned against the wall to listen in.

*Phone conversation*

"Yes I understand" she said.

"Okay, so explain to me how she knew" he asked.

"I have no clue...but don't worry none suspects anything" she said

"Just be careful...I wouldn't want to take drastic measures if you screw up" he said.

"Ok, it won't happen again" she said.

"Good..I will contact you soon with further instructions" he said.

"Ok.." she said.

"Oh and um...you have company" he said.

When the phone hung up....

"Arianna" she called.

"How did he know I was there" I thought as I walked in her room.

"You know you shouldn't be ease dropping" she said.

"...Um, I-I wasn't. I just happened to be around"

"Yeah okay, anyway what is it you want?" she asked.

"Um...the doctor told me that grandma wasn't sick"

She looked at me with an awkward look then said "and what, you believe her?"

"I mean..yeah, she is a doctor"

"Look sweetie, your grandma had a very serious but rare cancer, thats all" she said.

Something was a little off about her right now.

So instead of constantly going back and forth I just said "Oh, yeah, thats what I thought it was. I just wanted to make sure"

She nodded her head and smiled as I walked out the room.

When I laid on my bed, I grabbed my necklace and stared at the ceiling.

"(Sigh) Something isn't right".....
