Chapter 8: FAKE

     I walked into the guidance counselor's office looking all pissed, by my surprise Mr. Ark was waiting for me on the phone with my period 3 teacher. He told me to sit while he was still dealing with my teacher on the phone. After they were done he looked really disappointed, "WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?! Your teacher has been calling me telling me non stop that you weren't in class!" I rubbed my arm and tried to apologize but nothing came out and I just sat there.
     After he finally calmed down he asked why I didn't go to class. I sighed and started to explain the bullshit what was happening. "At lunch I heard people talking about me, they were saying really rude things." I looked down at my shoes and started swaying them back and forth. He asked me what the rude things were and if I took my medicine. I totally forgot about my medicine, but ever since I heard those stupid people talking about me and my depression I didn't want to take them anymore I was gonna prove I wasn't sick and that there was nothing wrong with me.
     I lied and said I did take my medicine and asked if I could call my mom and ask if I can go home. Thankfully my mom came by and picked me up. I stared out the window the whole car ride. "So how was your day back..?" My mom said still focusing on the road. I could tell she was trying to be careful because Mr. Ark already told her what happened to me. "It was fine... Just stupid people..." She shook her head and pulled up to a mall parking lot.
     "Why are we here..?" I asked turning to my mom's direction. She turned to me and smiled "time to do a little shopping don't you think?" I smiled and hugged my mom "thanks." She knew I shopping or just going out and having fun eases my stress.
     We went around the mall and bought food. It was really nice spending time with my mom. We finally sat down to take a breather, "so what exactly happened at school?" I looked at her confused. "Didn't Mr. Ark tell you already?" My mom shook her head, "he said something happened that bothered you but that's all..." I sighed and rolled my eyes, great I thought. Hopefully my mom doesn't go on a rampage demanding every person who said rumors about me to be expelled.
     I told her I would tell her if she bought me some bubble tea. We sat down and I told her what happened. She looked really angry, probably because she knows the rumors are bogus and that they shouldn't treat me that way. All of a sudden my mom pointed past my direction and said she saw Ruby walking by.
     I turned around to see if it was really her, I smiled in excitement. "I'll be right back mom," I got up and ran so I wouldn't lose her. I yelled out her name but it looked like she was running away from me.  She turned into a store and I followed her, I looked every where and went around the store twice she was gone.
     When my mom and I got home I went straight to my room and tried calling Ruby. I tried multiple times but she never answered once. I texted her, dm her, nothing. After I texted Marie asking if she has gotten a hold of her. She said she was just talking to her a second ago, I didn't understand what was happening. First the rumors now this, every thing was falling apart.
     I FaceTimed Danica and told her what was happening. She was annoyed and looked very angry. "Who does this girl think she is?! I mean she knows you're going through a lot and now she's treating you like this! I never liked her in the first place. Why are you still friends with her?!" I shrugged, "but we're best friends..." Danica gave me a sympathetic look, "best friends don't treat each other this way Annabelle..."
     Although I didn't want accept Ruby was treating me that way Danica had a good point. I decided I was gonna talk to Ruby and tell her how I feel.
     The next day rolls around and I'm greeted with a morning text from my unknown friend.
Unknownboy_25: good morning animegal, hope you're feeling better...
Me: yeah I am, thanks.
Unknownboy_25: no problem. Promise me you're gonna stay the whole school day and not skip class this time.
Me: lol fine I promise. But why do you care so much whether I go to class or not.
Unknownboy_25: getting to know you I don't think you're the type to just skip and yolo everything.
Me: lol yolo? Who still says that?
Unknownboy_25: trust me many people do.
Me: anyway... Got to get ready eyeliner is not as easy as you think. Lol bye
     It was a nice surprise to wake up to but now I had to talk to Ruby. I don't know why I was so nervous, I just don't want to screw things up. I decided the right time to do it was at lunch.
     They were sitting at the usual table we always sit. I came to sit down but Ruby was ready to get up but before she could I grabbed her arm and asked if with we could talk. She slowly sat back down and was trying to avoid eye contact with me.
     "Why are you treating me this way?!" I couldn't hold back, I needed answers. She was my best friend but now she was acting like the coldest person on earth. "I have no idea what you're talking about... I kinda have to go so-" "NO! You are gonna tell me what is going on!" Probably everyone around us started to stare at me. I was trying my best to keep in the tears that were fighting to stream down my face.
     "You know I'm going through a lot and as my best friend you should be by my side am I right?!" She stared blankly at me like I was talking nonsense. Everybody started talking around us.
     "Oh isn't that the emo girl?" "Looks like she's looking for trouble!" "She has friends? The fuck?" Although I heard all these things all my attention was on Ruby. "Best friends..?" She said slowly. I looked at her confusingly and shook my head yes, "you thought we were best friends? Please why would I want an emo girl like you as a best friend. Why don't you run off and take your pills huh?" She stood up and started to walk away.
     Time stopped and I fell to the ground. Everyone was yelling and screaming that I just got told. People started throwing trash and calling me the "emo girl". Marie didn't even say any thing and was gonna follow Ruby until Danica and her friends held her back. "Are you kidding me guys?! Why are you tormenting her?!" I looked up  and the whole cafeteria went silent. "Most of you guys don't even know how hard it is to have depression or feel the way she feels! You have no right in calling her names and straight up bullying her! So leave her the fuck alone!"
     Danica and her friends helped me up and took me outside for some fresh air. They were all comforting me saying how stupid people in our school are. A small girl with big glasses then tapped my shoulder. "Hey are you alright? That was horrible what that girl said about you."
     I recognized her from my math class. She didn't really talk to anyone in our class and this was the first time she's ever spoken to me. "Um my name is Penelope, were in math class together... " I shook my head "yeah I know, hi! And I'm fine thanks for asking."
     I spent the rest of my lunch talking with her and Danica's group of friends. The bell finally rung and we all went inside to get to class. I learned that Penelope was also in my art class and we were gonna walk together. Before heading to art the principle stopped me and asked if I could go to her office. I waved bye to Penelope and told her I would catch up later.
     When I walked into the office Ruby was sitting in the extra chair with her arms folded. The principal told me to sit in the chair beside her, she turned her body so she was only facing her and not me. I rolled my eyes and waited for what the principal wanted to talk about. "I heard there was a commotion during lunch involving you 2 ladies..."
     Ruby wasn't gonna say anything so I started. I told her that we were originally really good friends but she was acting really odd and everybody started to bully me because of my depression and that I cut myself. "You know no one likes a snitch." Ruby said out of no where. I turned to her and said "yeah well no one likes fake people either!"
     The principal could feel the tension in the room. "Okay well both of you are on lunch duty for the rest of the week and that's final." We weren't allowed to talk or complain. She sent Ruby out to go back to class but wanted to speak to me more.
     "I hope you understand why I gave you lunch duty." I looked at her all confused, "because I was in a fight?" She shook her head.  "I know you were a victim in the situation... I just... Don't want people to think we're giving you special treatment because of you're condition, I hope you understand."
     I thought about it for a moment and agreed with her, "yes ma'am I understand." I was really hoping the week was gonna go by fast. I really didn't want to handle the garbage the whole time.
     When I got home I told Unknownboy what happened. I was really building a relationship with him. I don't know what he looks like or who he really is but he seems like a really nice guy.
     I got a phone call last night from my cousin Nathan. We talked about the anime convention we were going to and how it was almost coming up. I really couldn't wait and it was beginning to be summer vacation.
     My mood changed from happy to upset. I can't believe Ruby never saw me as a best friend. As I was about to sleep thinking about it Unknownboy messaged me.
Unknownboy_25: fake friends make you realize how important friendship is. I hope you don't let this fight put you down, they're are many people who will be willing to become you're friend. Cough cough me. Anyway this is getting long enough sweet dreams.
Me: sweet dreams? Do I sound like some princess to you?
Unknownboy_25: maybe how would I know lol. But if you were I bet you would be a pretty one.
Me: really lol. Are you flirting with me?
Unknownboy_25: I was never really good at flirting but maybe... Anyway sweet dreams princess.
     Maybe? He said maybe? I mean I know this is wrong, I don't even know him but I might be falling for this Unknownboy.
