Chapter 1

I slumped onto the couch, my fist clenched. I wanted to hit something, smash it, crush it to powder.

Independence! I smirked.

What made me believe that this would be fun?

"Do something on your own. Know what's being responsible." My sister, Leah had said to me. She wanted me to be something on my own and not just a rich, successful businessman's son, not a spoilt child.

I loved my sister a lot and even if we did fight a lot, I always ended up listening to her and doing whatever she told me to.

"I want you to stay alone, I mean, to manage your life by yourself." She said. "And it's high time you stop being a player! I really hate that attitude."

"How do you expect me to stop being a player when you're telling me to stay alone in a place all by myself?" I retorted. This gave me a lot of freedom but that clever girl successfully lured me into her trap. She had read way too much of romance novels and now she was trying to turn me into one of the novel's hero which I doubt I could be. The longest time I stayed with one girl was, I think about three months. I wonder why I stayed so long with that girl? Frankly speaking, I never really fell in love with any of the ever lasting list of girlfriends I have. Well, my parents didn't know about my player reputation. At home, I was the good boy.

How could I fall in love with them when the only thing all those girls cared about was my money? My future was secured as I was going to have a partnership in my father's business after completing my tertiary education.

My sister's lecture about finding true love had had an impact on me and I didn't want to end up with a chick who was only after my money and that was why I here today. Alone in my house!

My father has gifted a house all to myself a few kilometres away from the university. Leah had planned it all. I missed her so much but I am still angry at her. After she got married, she hardly ever had time for me. Now, I was only a few hours away from where she lived but still she never came to meet me. I could have visited her but I don't know why but I didn't feel at ease with her husband. I don't know why I don't like him.

Maybe it's because he took my sister away.

I stared at the living room. It was a real mess. There were boxes of fast food on the table and the room looked so dirty. I needed to call my mom.

I can't stay like this anymore.

I've shifted here for more than two weeks now and my life was a fiasco. Back there at home, my mom did everything for me and there were maids also but here I was completely alone.

First of all, I can't cook! I can't even crack an egg. I only knew how to use the microwave, using the stove was unthinkable, let alone the oven. My clothes were another problem. How to use the washing machine was uncomprehensible.

The first time I thought I had been successful with it, I had each and every of my clothes in a new colour. My second favourite shirt faded on another shirt. It was horrible. The second time I tried, the clothes were only halfly washed. There was still the foam on it and I had to wash it in the bathroom one by one and don't ask about the mess I made there.

My trouble didn't end here. What about ironing? I was not use to doing household chores. I didn't know anything about it. I ended up burning my clothes. I even broke the iron and had to buy another one. Finally, I got a solution to my problems. For the clothes it was the laundry services and in the case of food, fast foods and restaurants existed. The problem with that now was that those food kind of lost their magic since I ate them everyday. I missed my mom's food.

It was imperative that I call my mom. I just had to try not to dramatise things.

"Hello!" She said.

"Hey mom! How are you?" I asked.

"I'm fine. How are you? Why didn't you call? I had been waiting for your call. Everything's okay?'' she asked.

"Yeah but mom. I need a housekeeper." I finally said trying not to sound desperate.

"Why??" She asked. "I can come if you want."

"No! I mean, I'm a bit busy with uni and I don't have much time to take care of the house." I lied.

"Okay, I'll make the arrangements and let you know." She said.

"Thanks Mom! Love you, bye!" I said.

"Bye! Take care."

I wondered about the housekeeper who would come. Probably an old lady. Well, she would have lots to do. I thought as I scanned the room.
