The Move

The three girls decided it would be best that Emma Jane moved in with Natalie. The rest of the day was spent making calls and cleaning Nat's apartment. Kate called Uhaul, Natalie's landlord, and her mom (that phone call was the longest). Emma and Natalie sorted through Natalie's stuff and decided what to keep and what to sell. That way there was room for Emma's stuff. It took three days for Emma to get completely moved in. And once she did, she never felt happier.
It was Emma's and Nat's first day back at work since the barbecue. Emma Jane was a waitress at IHop and Natalie worked as an ASL interpreter for their local high school. The events of their weekend really effected their moods at work.
Emma Jane mixed up people's orders. Natalie sometimes zoned out and didn't hear what the teacher was saying. It was not a good day for the beautiful couple.
At the end of the day, Emma Jane waited outside of IHop, waiting for Nat to pick her up. She had been waiting for five minutes when her phone rang. She took her phone out of her pocket and saw that her mom was calling. She hesitated. She didn't know if she should answer it or not. Finally, she gave in.
"Hello?"
"Emma Jane, it's so good to hear your voice." Her mom said. It sounded like she had been crying.
"Hey, mom. It's good to hear you to."
"Look, I just wanted to talk to you about Saturday. A lot of words were said And tears were shed. I think these passed few days gave us all time to think about what happened."
"Yeah."
"So now I think we are on the same page about this whole thing."
Emma's heart filled with joy.
"You think so?"
"Yes, I think that this week has given you time to think about your feelings. You need to understand that this is wrong. What you feel towards Natalie is not romantic love. It's love a friend has for a friend. You two have been friends for 20 years. I understand how you could confuse those feelings."
Emma almost threw her phone. How could her mom not understand?! She was gonna saying something back, but she didn't want to make matters worse. She simply hung up.
As soon as she did Natalie pulled up.
"Hey, gorgeous, you need a ride?"
"I don't know...., someone was supposed to come get me ten minutes ago."
Natalie laughed. "Sorry about that, love. Traffic."
"Uh, huh." Emma Jane got on the motorcycle and strapped her helmet on. "My mom just called."
"Yeah? Did she change her mind?"
"Nope, she just hoped we changed ours."
Natalie shook her head and drove towards their home.
