First Tears

After a fifteen minute drive we ended up at my house, "Well," I said piercing through the awkwardness that has been building up in the car, "this is my humble abode."

"I like it," Craig states at he looks at the blue townhouse, "do you live here alone? I'm assuming you don't by the lights that are on inside."

Thank goodness, Chloe made it home safely. "Yeah, I live with my aunt." I say while messing with my nails nervous to ask the next question, "Would you like a tour?" Craig nodded calmly but his eyes showed the feeling of surprise and excitement. Luckily I didn't show my nervousness outwardly so it wasn't a problem for me to get the door open to get in.

"I'm going to go change into something more comfortable." I say as I usher Craig to the kitchen, "You can help yourself to a snack or a drink." I walk away from Craig down the hallway to go to my room but first I checked on Chloe to see if she was okay. I opened her door to see her laying on the floor half covered in her comforter still in her dress but she ended up putting pajama pants on before falling asleep. I closed her door softly to make sure she doesn't wake up. Once, I closed her door I made my way down the hall to my room where I changed into some Pokemon sweatpants and a yellow tank top. I whipped off all of my makeup and I put up my hair. I walked back to the kitchen to see Craig looking at the pictures of not only my family but of the few drawings Chloe keeps up to remind me how proud of me she is.

I assume Craig heard a board creek or heard my breathing because he startled me by speaking to me with his back still facing me. "Your family looks so happy," he said admiring the picture taken eight or so years ago at our last family get to together, "Two brothers?" he questioned.

"Yeah two," I said while walking up to him pointing both of the teenagers, at the time, next to me. "The oldest is Fin and the younger one is Emmet."

"I have an older brother," Craig admits, "there's some days I wish he was a chick because he can be a pain in my arse." he shakes his head with a shake thinking of his older brother.

"I get it," I said putting my hand on Craig's shoulder, "I've been in that boat many times." I breathe out a laugh remembering when I was first experiencing puberty, wishing I had a sibling or cousin there for me as I thought it was weird to ask my mother, at first. Shaking off that awkward time in my life my eyes graze over all of the other pictures that were on display on the side table.

Craig turns to face me which makes me take my hand off his shoulder. "So," he says with a slight smile, "I want to learn more about you." he states almost as if he needs my permission to ask me questions.

"I want to learn about you too," I say with a similar tone, "How about whatever question you ask me you also have to answer and vice versa?" Craig was unsure at first but then he soon agreed. "Well, let's go with something simple, how old are you?" I asked.

"I am 21, you?" he states.

"I just turned 20 a month ago, now your turn to ask."

"Alright," he says scratching his cheek, "where are you from? I from northern Ireland as well as western England."

"I'm from a little farm in southern Ireland." I said with a smile slowly followed by a slight frown having a sudden flash of home sickness.

"Amber," he said with concern putting his hand on my face so my eyes would look into his, "did I upset you?"

"Just feeling home sick is all," I breathe out whipping my eyes off just incase I had any tears that were on the brink of falling. I walk away from him into the kitchen to open a drawer that held pencils and paper. I grab a post-it note and scribble my number on it before holding it out for Craig to take. "I'd love to talk all night but I need some alone time, I hope you understand." Craig slowly shook his head as he was too afraid to speak as if even a word was spoken to me I'd shatter. "You can text me at anytime, I'll walk you to the door."

Craig followed slowly behind me putting the post-it note in his wallet, for safekeeping. "I know how you feel," Craig says in a hushed tone, "leaving the place you've known for so long, somewhere where you felt so comfortable to go to a new strange place. You'll be okay, Amber, you're strong." Craig leaned in hugging me and just as he lets go of me he pecks me on my cheek, "Goodnight, Amber." with that he went to his car and pulled out of our driveway. I watched Craig's car until his car couldn't be seen anymore.

I soon walk inside, walking to the kitchen to grab a bottle of water, then heading to my bedroom. Once I walked in I looked at the multiple pictures both the ones that were drawn and the ones took by a camera. I had missed my home, heck, I even miss the back breaking work I did everyday. Instead of doing the cliche thing of crying myself to sleep, I instead typed up everything that has happened until I let sleep take over me.
