TERENY

After engulfing a glazed donut with mustard and an Oreo donut, I felt completely sick to my stomach. I ate in the cafeteria area, away from everyone in the waiting room to have my peace and not be looked at like I'm crazy. It didn't serve me any justice because a white couple were staring at me as if I was a hobo.

I just got up from the table that I was sitting at and threw away my trash to go up to walk over to the vending machine to get a bottle of milk. I had been craving the milk ever since I had started eating the donuts but was too lazy to get up and get it. But when I did, I swear I drunk the whole thing of milk in one gulp.

Frustrated, I bought another bottle of milk and took baby sips from it as I walked back to the waiting room where everyone was sitting. Keira and Chris were sitting side by side all huddled up while Deborah was rocking Angel. Bernard was staring out of the window in space. Lesley had even showed up and I didn't even know.

When they saw me coming in, Deborah was the first to say something.

    "He's out of surgery."

"Really? When can we see him?" I asked.

"The doctor said he will let us know." She responded.

Lesley had walked over to me and wrapped her arms around me as if we were the best of friends. I hugged her back and fell in love with her new bone straight hair. And even though her hair was beautiful, she still reminded me of Gabby. God, I hated that they were twins.

"It's been a long time, Tereny!" She said to me with much enthusiasm. I wonder if she knows about the situation with Bruce and Gabby and she's just dancing around hot coal.

    "Yea, it sure has."

    "Where's the kids?"

"They're with a friend." I gave her all of the bluntest answers that I could without getting too locked in a conversation with her. She nodded and then went to her seat and sat down.

I nodded and sat down next to her, looking at ahead at Deborah rocking Angel who's eyes were slowly falling. Seeing her just kind of made me wish I would've brought my kids with me instead of leaving them with Jeremy.

Grabbing my phone from my purse, I cut it on. I figured I would call him and see how they're doing since it is now a decent hour.

It took a while for my phone to boot up and once it did, I saw that I had three missed calls from Martray and a text message. Considering that I was sitting next to my husband's mother, I decided to ignore them and text him at a later time. Surely, I had nothing to hide. Martray is my daughter's biological father, but still—I didn't feel right.

Dialing Jeremy's number quickly, I waited until the line was connected before I placed the phone to my ear.

"The fuck you want?" He answered sounding furious, catching me off guard.

"Ooh! Is that how you answer your phone? That's what we're on, huh?" I didn't give him enough time to explain. "How's my babies?"

"Damn, I'm sorry, T. I thought you were Cheri. She's been tripping hardcore lately. It's like I can't catch a goddamn break. She called me bitching about Jeremih having some type of rash or something. I don't know how the fuck it got there. He didn't have it when I had him." He went onto explaining. "But they're good. Britney ate her breakfast, Britten ate his, and now they're in the day room watching CSI: Miami."

"CSI: Miami? What are they doing watching CSI: Miami?"

"I had it on there this morning. They're showing marathons or something, but they're sitting quietly and watching it. Too much action going on, I guess." He seemed pretty busy so I didn't want to hold him up.
