Chapter 27 : A Lost Friend

{Jeff's POV...}

I sped out of the house without another word. My cheek hurt from Jenna's slap, but I paid no attention to it.
I stopped in the middle of the road and looked both ways. I sped down the road in one direction, I heard everyone else come out the door but I didn't care.

I had to apologize to Maddie...
How could I saw something so stupid like that in front of her...

I ran without thinking. My makeup itched my face but I forced myself to keep it on.

I looked everywhere where until I couldn't take it any more.
"Maddie!" I screamed as loud a I could.
There were people along the streets that looked at me. I didn't care and I screamed again.

I ran down the street, dodging cars. I looked into an alley as I passed it and saw a familiar face. I stopped running and squinted my eyes to see the person better...
It was Maddie...

She was with... Zalgo?!

"Maddie get away from him!" I yelled and got both of their attentions.

"Jeff?" Maddie seemed surprised to see me. She began to run towards me bit Zalgo grabbed her wrist and disappeared.

My breath stopped... my eyes widened...

I slowly let out a shaky breath as I stared into the empty alley. I heard zero and Liz calling my name but I didn't look at them.

As soon as I felt a hand on my shoulder I couldn't support my weight anymore. I fell back and Zero caught me.
I couldn't move...

"Jeff what's wrong!? What happened!?" Zero asked me.
"Zalgo..." I said quietly. I saw Liz and Zero look at one another, then at me.
"What about Zalgo?" Liz asked.

"Zalgo... took Maddie... i-i-i couldn't do anything... I'm sorry!" I was a shaking violently.
"Jeff it's okay..." Liz said, but I sat up straight and gripped her shoulders.
"No it's not! Did you not here me, he took her!" My mind was running wild.
"Jeff calm down... Zalgo knows she is my one of my best friends... he won't hurt her." Liz said.
I calmed down a bit and breathed.
"Are you sure she'll be alright?" I asked. Liz didn't answer.

"We should go look for them then. Zalgo would have a reason to take her, so why don't we just ask him? Ill contact him right now..." Zero said.
I nodded my head slowly as Zero concentrated.

After a few minutes, Zero finished and I finally caught my breath.
I turned to Zero wide eyed to see what he had to say.
"I have his location, Zalgo wouldn't talk to me though, but I tracked him." Zero said.
I sighed with relief.
"Lets go then..." I said.
"Shouldn't we wait for the others?" Liz asked.
"No, Zalgo wouldn't appreciate us going against him."Zero said.
"Then let's go!" I said.
"Alright, this way!" Zero said, he ran down the pavement towards the forest. Liz and I followed quickly.

We ran into the forest with the bushes whipping us. We ran for about twenty minutes before we reached a building with an "x" carved into the front wooden door.
"Is that it?" I asked.
Zero nodded and I crashed through the door without another word.

Once in the building, I saw them. Zalgo was holding Maddie by her neck. I ran closer to finally see them more clearly but I froze.

Maddie wasn't moving. I heard something drip to the floor and I looked down to see blood dripping off of Maddie's pale fingertips.

I let out a shaky breath and looked to see Maddie's face. Her chest was drenched in dark blood and she seemed to be frozen in shock. Small dots of blood were scattered across her face and her hair was in knots.
