Chapter 21: Bad idea or no?

"No!" I shouted and backed away.

"Cara this is a good idea. I know you're not liking it but it could work." My mom tried to reason.

"No this is bad." I shook my head.

"Cara, I agree with them." Carter spoke up.

"What?" I almost whispered.

"I need to do this. I can't risk her hurting you again."

I looked at the chains hanging from the wall on the cold stone floor. There's a bed that looks pretty comfortable and the walls are made of concrete. I gulped and then faced Carter again.

"I want to stay with you." I said.

"No!" They all responded in unison.

"Yes!" I shouted back.

"I don't want her to hurt you." Carter repeated his words from earlier.

"Well, I think I'll be fine. I know you're strong. I know you can beat her. Can I worry about you for once?" I cried. My parents looked between Carter and I and then stepped out of the room to give us some privacy.

"I know it's hurting you, and it's hurting me the same way. I just want to fight this war with you. I don't know what I would do if I ever lost you." I choked out.

Carter took one stride towards me and pulled me to his chest. Tears silently streamed down my cheeks as I squeezed Carter needing all the comfort he is giving me.

"It's just hard." Carter whispered.

"What's wrong?"

"I'm so tired." His voice cracked and tears brimmed his eyes. I quickly wiped away the tears.

"I know. Me too." I responded, my own tears flowing down my face. "Everything will be okay soon. I promise." I added. Carter closed his eyes and nodded.

Carter ducked his head down and connected his lips to mine. Our lips moved in sink. My hands played in his hair as he cupped my face. I walked back until my back hit the wall. Before it could go any farther, I pulled away.

"I love you." I breathed out.

"I love you, too."
