Carter has been coming over a lot. My parents don't seem to have a problem with it though. My dad may have needed a little convincing, but he soon gave in. Carter and I have been on a couple dates and have gotten much closer. I'm completely healed from whatever injuries I have and I have gained all of my powers back thankfully.

Carter and I may have been getting closer but he's also seemed distant too. He would go places and then when I would ask him about it, he would just brush it off. I don't know what's wrong with him lately.

"Maria, have you noticed something off about Carter lately?" I asked.

"Yeah, he seems...distant." She answered.

"I know, I've tried to ask him about it but he just shuts me down."

"Well, you're going to have to figure it out." Maria said. I nodded and looked back down at my magazine. Maria and I are hanging out at her house for some girl time.

My phone began to ring next to me and I looked to see it was Carter.

"Hey, Carter." I answered.

"Hey, we need to talk." Carter said.

"Okay, where?" I asked. His tone made me worried.

"I'll come pick you up."  He said and then hung up. I looked over at Maria and she had a confused face.

"Yeah, you need to figure out what's wrong because he's just acting strange."  She said. I hopped off the bed and then hugged Maria.

"Sorry to cut our girl time short."  I apologized.

"It's okay, go figure out what's wrong with your man."

"Okay."  I laughed.

I put on my shoes and then grabbed my phone and headed out the door. Carter showed up not even five minutes later. I got in the car and closer the door. I went to lean over and give him a kiss but he looked forward and began driving. I frowned and sat straight in my seat.

"What's wrong Carter?" I asked. He didn't respond and just kept driving. He pulled into a park parking lot and I noticed there was no one there. He climbed out of the car and I followed. Carter walked on the trail into the woods and I followed behind.

"Carter. Stop." I demanded after ten minutes of walking. He stopped and turned to me. My face softened when I noticed his conflicted state.

"Please, just talk to me." I begged.

"I've been thinking, and I've decided we need some time apart." He started.

"What?!" I asked, but he kept talking.

"I just can't do this right now, I just have some things that I have to do."

"Things you have to do?" I repeated.

"Just try and understand." Carter said. I scoffed and then raised one of my eyebrows.

"Understand..."

"I have some things I have to take care of. I can't have all of this when I need to worry about something else." Carter sort of explained.

"You have things to take care of, just like I had things to take care of." I responded.

"What are you talking about?" Carter asked.

"I'm living my normal life and trying my best to get into my dream college. I have all these things that I need to do in order for me to achieve my dream of going to that college. All of that was put on hold when you kidnapped me. I had things to do! My life was put on hold and I feared for my life for months, so if anyone should try and understand anything, it's you!" I shouted.

"Instead of hating you because you kidnapped me and put my whole life on hold, I loved you. I convinced my parents that you're this amazing person that was just manipulated by his mother. But you know what? When Carter needs time and needs to get things done, let's all stop so he can go on with it!" I can't control my anger anymore. I feel bad for saying all of this but some of its true. Carter shouldn't be keeping me in the dark like this.

I have done nothing but love him and try my best to make our lives go normal again. He isn't even saying anything, it's like he's giving up on us.

But I'm not ready to give up on him.
