Dear Derek,
You're a beam of light surrounded by the darkness of life. You don't connect with people like others, you feel a mental magnetic pull towards Oliver. You're too scared of what will happened between you though. You're afraid of judgement. When you finally reach him, you won't be afraid. The only judgement that will matter is yours and his. Go for it. Prom is just around the corner, ask him alone, away from those crowds. And during the last slow dance, look into his eyes and say what you're thinking when you see them. I expect you to kiss him after that. Love can be found in the light and dark.
