dan noticed his whiter collar underneath his jumper was uneven, so he proceeded to adjust it as he stood at his battered locker. kids liked to doodle random articles on there, but he didn't care. who would care about someone as useless as dan howell?
class was about to start, and if he got one more tardy he would receive a detention. dan sighed, pulling down the black jumper. at least he has one thing to look forward to; that being the sight of the silver, silent, welcoming moon at 8:30. that's when the moon was set to rise, and he couldn't wait. the moon always welcomed him. he always welcomed the moon.
sitting in class, dan wrote his notes down from the blackboard. after a short while, his pencil decided to break, creating a loud 'snap' that rang throughout the classroom. students looked up from their papers, rolling their eyes. dan didn't say a word. his dark, sad eyes wandered throughout the room to find a person who would lend him a new pencil.
scanning, scanning, lock.
dan's eyes rested upon a raven-haired boy with pale skin and crystal eyes. they must be very fragile for the amount of beauty they showed. dan cleared his throat and stood up awkwardly, black shoes shuffling against the tile flooring.
"excuse me, have you got a pencil i might be able to use? i promise i will give it back at the end of class. mine just broke a few moments ago."
the corner of dan's mouth creased and folded to a side-smile. he wasn't very good at socializing.
the raven-haired boy looked up, crystal gleaming as the sunshine beamed through the windows and into his eyes.
"of course. i have one right here for you," he picked up a bright yellow pencil and handed it over to dan.
dan stared at it. it wasn't black like his other pencils.
"thanks."
the raven-haired boy looked up, smiling now,"anytime. say, why don't we have a talk after class? free period, perhaps? you seem like you could use a friend."
dan looked from the pencil to the boy,"talk?"
"yes. we don't have to, as much as you are comfortable."
dan smiled completely now,"no, no, i would love to. see you then, and thanks for the pencil."
dan turned around now, and sat in his creaky desk in the front row. friend? talk?
dan doesn't know how he feels about socializing, but if it includes that boy, he could talk for hours.
