with the car horns beeping and the loud noise from activity in the city, both dan and phil were having trouble finding a place to reside if they were 'running away forever'. phil wasn't so sure about how he felt about dan's plan, what, did he think they would be successful out on the streets? there are a lot of bad things that happen on the streets, and phil wasn't interested in taking part in any of them.

dan led the way as they went into a large area of trees and plants. the sun shone light in the trees and phil walked beside the plants. he touched them, and they looked up to the sky. dan turned around, seeing phil enjoying himself in the nature. he smiled, knowing that now, nothing was in the way of him and his best friend. phil caught up to him and followed him again.

then, they came to a clearing with railroad tracks. there were train cars standing on the tracks, not moving because they weren't connected to anything. the trees blew softly in the breeze. dan dropped his backpack and hid behind one of the cars and phil entered the clearing. he looked around, not knowing where dan went.

"dan?" phil looked around, confused.

dan laughed silently, watched phil as he walked around a few steps and stopped. then his gaze shifted, and he saw two feet wearing dark shoes underneath a car. dan saw phil approaching and then jumped out behind the car.

"BOO!" dan held up his cat claws and got close to phil.

"oh, dan, you scared me! i was really worried something happened to you,"phil hugged dan tightly. he smiled with relief and dan looked down to see the boy hugging him. dan's face softened and he smiled. he hugged the boy back and they stood there for a few moments, hugging in silence. there were occasional chirping birds and dog barks off in the distance. the sun then went behind a cloud as it started raining. dan looked up and saw phil was getting rained on. so, dan stood over phil so that he would stay dry and warm.

"we should go under a tree.. here looks good," dan walked over with phil and sat under a tree. their backpacks resting on the trunk. phil leaned into dan and watched as there was faint thunder sounding in the distance. dan rested his head on top of phil's as phil's head rested on dan's shoulder. the was a flash of lightning and it lit up the sky.

"the rain is so peaceful. it is also very relaxing when im in a down mood," dan smiled and looked down at phil, who looked up at him with his blue eyes.

"yeah, i always liked talking pictures of the rain drops on the window after a storm. my windows are too dusty, though. it keeps me from my aesthetic lifestyle," phil shrugged and smiled.

dan shook his head as he just kept staring at phil, his fringe matted down by the rain dripping on him. phil looked back at dan's eyes, they were darker now that the sun wasn't out. dan then leaned into phil, not aiming for shoulder. phil also leaned in, not aiming for the shoulder. they were not more than and inch apart when a loud crash of thunder cracked in the sky. then, a strike of lightning hit a tree in the woods. the static sound was almost deafening as it ripped through the boy's moment. they both jumped and turned to face the hit tree. the tree was on fire, of course, and it was quickly spreading to other trees. the rain was no match for the raging fire.

"oh my god, phil. we have to leave, now," dan grabbed his backpack and opened it. he grabbed his hat that he packed and put to over his head. he grabbed phil's hand after he grabbed his own backpack. they both ran away from the scene.

"shouldn't we call some sort of professionals to come and help stop this? i mean, woods mean a lot of opportunities for spreading," phil looked back at the area and the fire raged up, the black smoke rising quickly. then, they both heard sirens. dan took phil's hand as they ran across the railroad tracks and into another area of woods. it was getting dark.

"dan, dan!" phil let go of dan's hand.

dan turned,"what?"

phil was catching his breath. he was drenched in water, and his clothes stuck to his skin. he looked up and his fringe was in his eyes, water running down his pale face. he shook his head as the water from his hair sprayed everywhere. the rain itself was letting up. phil sat where he was, the mud and wet branches surrounding him. the clouds quickly cleared and the sun came out one again. dan looked up at the trees as the sun's light was reaching through them. phil smiled as he was warmed by the sun's glow.

"phil, we have to keep going, we could come in contact with a hotel or something," dan looked around him, being surrounded by trees. phil played around with the plants, but quickly got bored.

"okay, we can keep walking," phil got up and shook his hands out. his shirt was still sticking to his chest and stomach, and dan automatically followed as phil continued walking.

the sun eventually went down and the moon rose up. the two boys had exited the woods and came upon a hill. they both climbed it, dirt on their faces and dust in their hair. their clothes and backpacks were damp and their shoes were soggy.

"we should just sleep here for the night," dan at down at the edge of the hill.

phil sat down next to dan and set his backpack aside. he shook is hair and the dust from his fringe blew off.

the moon was lined up perfectly from where they were sitting, and dan turned to look at it. once he looked at it, his eyes brightened up.

find someone who brings out the light in you.

"dan?" phil asked, "you alright?"

dan turned and looked at the boy,"yes, i'm fine."

the two sat together in the list of the moon, and watched as each individual star twinkled in its own glory. dan then reached for phil's hand as it was resting on the grass. with that, they held hands and sat close, watching into the night.
