dan and his grandma drove to the police station as fast as traffic would allow them to. it was only about a 15 minute drive before they finally safely pulled into the parking lot. dan left his grandma to rest in the car while he got out and went inside. he was met by a man sitting at the front desk, nibbling on a scone and drinking some coffee.
"hello," dan said sternly, "i am here to see someone."
"name?" the officer asked with a monotone voice.
"uh, erm," dan began, "phil lester."
"oh, THIS kid. he's only been here for a couple of hours."
"yes. i am aware of that. listen, i need to get him out of here as soon as possible. this kind of environment isn't meant for someone like him. is he available right now?"
"i am not sure, let me ask."
the officer pulled away from is swivel desk chair and peered into a small room behind him.
"NANCY!" he said.
a small woman came out holding documents and papers. she fixed her glasses and adjusted her stance.
"what is it, stan?" she asked.
"this boy wants to know about-"
"dan?"
dan turned and saw a tall boy with the same raven black hair as before. except instead of his pastel shirts and his dark pants, he was wearing an orange jumpsuit. he was standing there, no one holding him back, no one trying to get him anywhere. he stood there in silence and waited.
dan at this time was immediately stunned. half of him wanted to rush to his side and hug him, but the other half of him was afraid to be pushed away. but phil didn't look scared, mad, sad, or confused. he just took there, as if someone had completely sucked emotion out of him.
"hey, what are you doing here?" stan the officer said. nancy set her documents down and stood waiting for what would happen next.
but phil didn't answer. he just stood there.
then, he slowly inched his way towards dan. 5 feet, 3 feet, 1 foot...
dan's gaze was downward but his face was still lifted. he was embarrassed after what happened. he was afraid phil would be mad after what he had done. but that didn't matter now. phil then slowly raised his hand and touched dan's chin. dan's eyes were still down. a singly tear ran down his cheek. then, phil drew closer and closer to him.
then, the unthinkable happened. it was like an eclipse. the sun and moon were joined together and all of the sadness was being pushed away. the sun and the moon, finally intertwined and engraved into each other's hearts.
but it didn't last long. soon, stan had pulled phil away by the arm and was dragging him away from dan. dan reached out, touching his lips as if a feather had brushed against them.
there was a heavy heartbeat in dan's ears and he couldnt hear the muttering coming from stan, the remarks of pity from nancy, and the secret footsteps of someone coming into the door. dan turned around and saw his grandma at the desk. she pulled out a wallet and murmured something to nancy. nancy went back to her documents and showed dan's grandma a certain amount of money. then, the unthinkable happened.
dan's grandma took every single pound from her wallet, until it was completely flat. nancy nodded her head and then yelled in stan's direction. again, dan couldn't hear any of this over his loud heartbeats.
stan then seemed to groan and let go of phil's arm, and phil immediately reached to see if it had left a mark, which it didn't. phil then looked at an awestruck dan, who was crying and still touching his lips. phil put his hands on dan's cheeks and used his thumbs to swipe away the tears.
he then kissed his moon again, and the sun shone through the windows. dan went back in for it, and he seemed to be showing part of a smile in the process. finally, without the intervention of the rest of the world, it was just the two of them.
dan's leg slowly lifted as he dove in once more, then slowly pulled away. phil looked at him with a gaze of affection.
"i love you, dan."
"i love you too, phil."
phil slowly wrapped his fingers around dan's as stan and nancy went back behind the desk to do their business.
dan's grandma even had a small tissue handy. dan was surprised as this whole time his grandma had never accepted him.
"i haven't seen true love until now. your mother and father would be so proud of you."
"they were horrible parents, grandma. they didn't care for what i wanted to do."
"thats because they didn't take the time to get to know their son."
phil pulled himself closer to dan, as if trying to protect him.
then, the three of them calmly walked out of the station. the dead and droopy plants around the area seemed to immediately perk up as soon as phil walked passed. a couple of them waved in the breeze. phil noticed one in particular, a lilac flower. he slowly reached down and picked it. he then handed it to dan.
dan blushed and quietly accepted it. he looked at phil as the two continued to hold hands. phil took it from dans hand and set it neatly in his curled hair. it was tucked behind his soft ear.
yet the two didn't get in the car with dan's grandma. they still walked and walked off of the pavement and onto the grass. dan's grandma sat in there car calmly as she watched her grandson walk away with another male. she smiled to herself and slowly closed her eyes.
it doesn't matter what or who you love. anyone can love anyone, regardless of their gender or sexual preference. love is combined by two hearts, no matter what the relationship may consist of.
dan and phil, sun and moon, dark and light, day and night. from that moment on, it was golden in the sky.
all was golden when the day met the night.
