What was that sweet smell wafting about, filling her nostrils? It smelled delicious. And... Didn't she recognize it?

"Happy birthday, (Y/N)," a silky voice greeted; lips were pressed on top of her forehead- a feather kiss. Only one person in the world had the courage to do that, not fearing the consequences that it would bring- well, would of bring. Adrien was in her room. She could almost see his smile through her closed eyelids.

(Y/N) stirred, (E/C) eyes opening. Her movements were sluggish as she stretched out her arms above her, "Good morning, Riri," she yawned, rubbing the sleep out of her eyes. "What time is it?"

"The time of your birth," he sarcastically said, peeling off her covers. The mattress of her bed dipped down when he sat. "Here, dessert."

Deciphering what Adrien was presenting to her, she inferred that the scent that awoke her was this- the source--

Croissants; a whole plate of them.

"Wow, Riri," murmured (Y/N) in amazement, gesturing to the treats, "This early in the morning?" It wasn't that she disliked croissants. (Y/N) adored them; but she didn't think Mr. Agreste would approve of her eating them so early in the day.

"What? No one will know." Adrien laughed. "Except for you and I."

"And Nathalie," (Y/N) drawled; the quizzical look on Adrien's face amused her. "You told her to buy these for you, am I right?" she guessed, fingering a croissant. She took a small bite, swallowing and savoring the rich flavor of the pastry.

Adrien scratched the nape of his neck sheepishly, "You caught me red-handed,"

(Y/N) stuck out her tongue. "I knew it." she chomped down half of the croissants, causing Adrien to frown. "What?" she asked, losing count on the number of food she was practically devouring.

He stared at the almost empty plate rested on her lap, "Are you gonna finish that?" there was a whimpering tone to his voice which elicited a squeal to be suppressed. (Y/N) couldn't believe how adorable he was- is, and she couldn't help but ponder on how handsome he'll turn out to be in the future.

She pushed the rest of her meal to him, catching a glimpse of joy flashing in his emerald eyes. "Knock yourself out, you swine," grinned (Y/N). Adrien happily obliged, munching on the croissants like a baby chipmunk. He stuffed his cheeks, puffing them out as he shoved piece after piece in his mouth. (Y/N) stared at him, fighting back the urge to laugh out loud. She wasn't sure whether he intended to give the croissants as his gift, or this rare sight of him.

"You should hurry and get dressed," Adrien suggested afterwards, about to leave her bedroom to spare her some privacy. (Y/N) nodded, motioning him to shoo. He winked at her playfully, then turned his back to, gently shutting the door behind him. When (Y/N) confirmed the coast clear, she scurried for her bag, rummaging her hand through it until she clasped the gadget she searched for: her cellphone.

(Y/N) skimmed through her text messages, a smile plastered on her face. Her classmates- or more specifically, her new-found friends, sent her birthday greetings as well. Before, her notifications were swarmed by Adrien, and Adrien alone. It was pleasing to receive new ones. To other people, her circle of friendship must be small, but to her it was just the way she wanted it to be: Max, Alix, Rose, Juleka, Kim- and a few others. Nathanaël's text was sent exactly at midnight, while Max's came a minute later than that. How cute.

'Ah, the beauty of technology.' she thought. 'This day's going to be fantastic! I can feel it...!'

Not for long.
