Hana stirs slightly as her beloved cat jumps off her bed. The cat, who was given to her by her mother, was a light brown shade with a dark brown belly. It's name was Hawk. Hana did not wake up. The cat strolled into the bathroom. Like normal. Then, a slight whoosh sound came from the small room. Hana woke his time, stretching slowly.

"Hawk? Kitty, wherd you go?"

Footsteps came down the hall. Hana knew there was no one in the small flat besides her parents, herself, and Hawk, but still.

As the footsteps got closer, Hana edged her way deeper into her blanket. A figure apeared in the doorway... And it had ears.

Hana gasped and the figure ran and pressed it palm against her mouth. Hana had a flashlight on her nightstand and she grabbed it, shinning it at the stranger. What she saw was a regular teenage boy, or what would be regular, if her didn't have huge cat ears and almond shaped cat-like eyes.

The cat/boy's eyes didn't blink.

"W-who are you? Why are y-you here?" Hana's hand was shaking like an earthquake.

The catboy reached hand up to scratch his left ear. "Who do I look like. I'm Hawk, your cat."

"No, you.. you can't be my Hawk. Hawk was a cat not some human-cat-thing. Tell me the truth."

"Does your cat love rice pudding and chasing lizards," asked the cat/boy. His eyes looked at Hana, almost daring her to deny it.

"How did you know?" She said, emerging slightly from her covers.

"I told you, I am your cat! Why don't you see!" His green-gray eyes flickering around the room.

Hana studied the boy for a moment. His large cat ears poked above brown hair, his almond cat eyes wide. But why was this... hybrid thing, claiming to be her beloved cat Hawk? Who knew, but the boy sounded and looked like he was telling the truth, so she had no choice but to go along with it.

"Say I belived you. What would you do?"

"Well, my real name is not Hawk. It's Maeko. I've been a Nekojin, which is a human with cat features, for a few years now. I'm the only one of my kind who can actually take the shape of a cat, in which case, your cat. My people despise me, which is why I do not live with them in their village. I chose to live with you and your family. Oh, and by the way, the food you give me is horrible. Besides the rice pudding."

Hana stared at catboy, no, Maeko. Was this really her cat, or was it some stupid teen pulling her leg? And since when did cat/people exist?

Maeko was now sitting crisscross on her bed, his eyes critiquing the many posters and paintings around her room. He pointed to a particularly colorful one, showing a cat standing on a dog standing on a horse.

"For your information, a cat would NEVER do that. Much less be anywhere near that horse. How you got that photo, I don't know, but it can't be real."

This caught Hana off guard, as she wasn't expecting this catboy to talk about a silly painting that, infact, wasn't real at all. Just a good laugh.

Gimme a break, I was only 5," she said, pretending not to notice the indignant tone to the boys voice. "And you're right, it's not real."

They we silent now, the catboy looking around the room. Finaly, he ran out of eccuses to not look at her, and his head swiveled to her, his gray green eyes soft and catlike. Hana blushed, embarrassed. Maeko got up and stretched. His hand went up to his left ear. He went over to the window, looking out of the second story bedroom.

His hand stretched out to Hana. "Come here."

Hana walked over to the window.

Maeko walked out onto the window sill, with his barefeet. He looked back at Hana. "Do you trust me?"

Hana stared at his outstretched hand.

"Do you trust me?"

"Yes?"

"Come on then! Don't worry, it's safe."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes. Hurry now. I want to show you something."

Maeko slid down the slopped roof, landing gracefully on the ground. "Come on, nothing to it!"

Hana shut her eyes, then re-opened them as she slid down the roof. She tumbled as she was about to get of the roof, and fell on top of Maeko.

Blushing, she got up and brushed herself off, then helped Maeko up. "Sorry."

He shook his head. "It's fine. Then a grin spread on his cat-like face. "You looked like a dying whale."

"Hey! I'm not used to sliding down roofs with cat-people," she said, trying to look angry. Slowly a smile spread across her own face and they were both on the ground laughing.

Maeko stumbled to his feet. His hand stretched out to Hana. For one moment time stopped. A star fell behind Maeko. All Hana could see was Maeko and she believed him.
