Chapter 2

Hana reached out to grab Maeko's hand. Maeko pulled her up. She brushed off her clothes. "Let's go," she said, knowing there must have been something in her eyes. Something rebellious.

Maeko smiled in the twilight. "Come on," he said running of in the direction of the woods. "Wait up!"

Hana raced to the porch of her house and grabbed her sneakers, then ran of the find Maeko. She found him just at the edge of the woods. He seemed to be looking for something. Suddenly, he grabbed for something in the darkness.

"Oooooooh you little, I'm gonna catch you someday!"

"Uh, what are you gonna catch someday?"

"Nothing. Lets go" Maeko looked like him mind was on other things.

Hana grabbed his hand and held him back. "What's on your mind? I can see you're not thinking of this moment right here. Tell me.

Maeko looked at her. "You, are very smart, Hana. I was just thinking of what I wanted to show you."

"And?"

"And, I don't know if its safe."

"You don't want to put me in danger? I can see it in your eyes. I've been in danger my whole life, more than you will ever know. You can't kill me with what you want to show me."

Maeko looked into her eyes. Hana looked into his eyes. Something deep inside Maeko, some thing wild, free, broke loose. The wild in him reached out to Hana. Maeko sense something in Hana, something in-human, something wild.

In the dappled moonlight, the two stood, two feet apart. Eyes burning holes through the other. Maeko smiled and reached out his hand. His eyes were like cool flames, soothing but dangerous at the heart.

Hana smiled and took his hand. "Let's go."
