Mad as a Hatter

Chapter 10

"Hatter, wake up," Luc called, making me frown as I slid my eyes open. This was the second time she had woken me up like that and it was pissing me off. I fucking like sleep!

"Fuck off," I muttered, rolling onto my stomach, only to groan when she sat on me.

"But-" I cut her off by saying in a muffled voice,

"No." I froze as I felt a cold feeling shoot through my body, making me freak out and fall onto the floor. I looked around to see Cassius standing there with a bucket of water in his hands. I growled up at him and yelled,"What the actual fuck dude!?" Luc gave me a confused look before she asked,

"Are you alright, Hatter?" We had been calling each other Mad Hatter and March Hare ever since last night, we decided on using them instead of our real names incase someone escaped us and got to the police. It would avoid complications. Anyway, I raised an eyebrow before I said,

"Uh, yeah. Why?"

"You just started freaking out, don't hurt yourself. It might tempt my appetite," she teased. I rolled my eyes before standing up and asking,

"Didn't you see what the hell just happened?" She tilted her head to the side and asked,

"Um, you mean you rolling off the bed?"

"She can't see me, Maddie," Cassius said in a sing song voice before adding,"Only you can, and that's because I'm letting you." I raised an eyebrow before shaking my head and asking,

"Sorry, nevermind. Why'd you wake me up?" She stood up and clapped her hands together before saying,

"I wanted to watch you 'season' my meal!" I paused before chuckling softly and asking,

"I'm guessing that means you want me to off the girl upstairs?" She simply nodded, making me laugh again before going up to the attic. The girl looked up at the sound of us coming up, freaking out when she saw me before I walked past her and sat at a small desk. Luc frowned and walked over before asking,

"What are you doing?" I glanced up at her before setting out the supplies from when we stopped at the store and saying,

"I wanna see if the idea in my head I have will actually work. I can easily try it out on our friend over there." She looked over at her before giggling and saying,

"All right! Tell me when you're ready to try it out!" I nodded, watching her skip over to the girl and giggling before singing to her,

"I eat people up, breakfast and lunch. Then when I'm thirsty, I drink their blood! Carnivore animal, I am a cannibal! I'll eat you up, you better run!" I rolled my eyes and held in my laughter before getting to work.

I smirked as I stood up, inspecting my new weapons. I had drill tiny holes into all ten of the rods of metal before placing the tiny scraps of metal in each hole and they were currently hiding away in the holes, hidden from view along with a small button on the very tip of the rods along with two strings coming out the bottom of them. I turned to the attic latch before calling,"Hare, I'm ready." She poked her head up, smiling widely before walking over as I asked,"Care to watch me test out my newest invention on your little meal?" She nodded excitedly before skipping over to the girl as I walked over in front of her and tying the two strings around my finger. I quietly aimed it at her before letting it go, smirking widely as it pierced deep into her shoulder. Luc clapped before frowning a little and saying,

"Fantastic shot, morsel, but is that all that it does? Might as well be throwing darts at the girl." I rolled my eyes before saying,

"Of course that's not all that it's supposed to do, now shut up and watch, man eater." She giggled at the nickname before stepping away and watching closely. I leaned down slightly and put the top string in between my teeth before yanking slightly and watching happily as the girl screamed in pain. Luc jumped slightly before looking over at me and asking,

"What'd you do?"

"I made these pretty thoroughly, that's why it took so long. I put tiny holes in the rods before putting the metal shards in each hole. When I broke the first string the shards stuck out of the rod and embedded themselves into her flesh. I made a small button on it that I can push to make the shards retract if I needed the person alive for some reason. Now watch what happens when I break this second string," I explained before doing the same thing I did with the first string to the second. The girl screamed even louder before the cloth around her mouth began to soak with red. Luc walked over and took it off, looking closely and dropping her jaw as she muttered,

"Jesus."

"As soon as I break the second string the shards fly out of the rod completely and embed themselves into the victim's flesh, killing them as long as I have good aim," I said, watching the girl's life fade from her eyes before I walked over and pulled the rod out, turning to Luc and saying,"Since you're the one eating her I'll leave it to you to get the shards out of her body. There should be fifty nine in all." Luc dropped her jaw before yelling,

"What!?" I simply laughed and climbed down the attic ladder and stretching a little.

"Nice weapon idea, Maddie," a chilling voice said, making me spin around before seeing Cassius. I sighed softly before asking,

"The hell do you want?"

"I need you to listen," he stated, shrugging a little. I rolled my eyes before nodding some to let him continue,"There's this man named Antitheus who has taken a certain interest in you and Luc. He knows where you are, and he's going to find you." I stopped before asking,

"Why?" He just smirked before holding a finger to his lips and saying,

"Spoilers!" I groaned softly before nodding and muttering,

"Whatever." As he was fading away I heard a voice ask,

"Who were you talking to?"I jumped slightly before turning around and saying,

"No one, Luc. Now can I get back to sleep?" She just smiled and said,

"Only if we can cuddle!" I chuckled softly and nodded, watching her hop onto our bed before climbing onto it and covering her along with me up. She curled into a small ball as I wrapped an arms around her, closing my eyes and letting the sweet gates of Oblivion take me.
