Mad as a Hatter

Chapter 9

I groaned as I felt something sharp poking at my side, making me open my eyes. I looked over to see Luc had opened up the door to the car and was currently poking at my side with her fork. I raised an eyebrow and she just laughed before she said,"You talk in your sleep, dear." I frowned before rolling my eyes and stepping out of the car.

"Are you ever going to start calling me by my name instead of these weird nicknames," I asked, folding my arms over my chest. She smirked before shrugging and stating,

"Don't mind the nicknames, hun. I'm a cannibal, it's hard to not think of you as a chubby snack." I scoffed before asking,

"Are you calling me fat?"

"It's not an insult, just means there's more of you," she said before noticing the look in my eye and adding,"You look fine, venison." I chuckled softly before walking over to a small store and looking inside. The lights were on which meant someone was inside, right? I sighed before nodding to Luc and walking inside, looking around I smiled at the young girl behind the counter before hearing her say,

"May I ask what you two are doing here? Are you from that town that was attacked?" I paused before asking,

"Why would you even ask us that?"

"The only town within miles is that one," she stated, raising an eyebrow before muttering,"Nice outfit." I frowned before walking over to the side of the store and picking up a pair of scissors and some metal bits along with ten nail sized pieces of metal and two feet of string. I looked over at her before turning to Luc and asking,

"Hey, you want a midnight snack?" She raised an eyebrow, tilting her head to the side before smirking and saying,

"I dunno, I'm trying to watch my figure."

"Really? Tell that to the many people we 'talked' to at the town," I stated, laughing a little before seeing the girl's confused face and laughing even harder.

"What are you two talking about," she asked before I turned to her and tackled her to the ground. She screamed and tossed and turned before I grabbed a nearby stool and smashed it into her head, knocking her out cold. I looked her over before smacking a small 'tsk' sound and standing up. I picked her up and threw her in the back of the car before sitting down next to her and calling,

"Luc, come on." She hopped into the car and started it up before asking,

"Where are we going?"

"......do you know a nice place," I asked, leaning back a little before she said,

"Before I was caught there was a small house I use to stay in, maybe it's still there." I nodded a little, leaning back and closing my eyes before passing out.

"Hey, minced meat, wake up," Luc called, nudging me slightly. I frowned and opened my eyes, blinking the sleep out of them before looking over at her and almost laughing at the sight in front of me. Luc was currently holding the girl from the store by the waist and holding her fork to her neck. I raised an eyebrow and climbed out before asking,

"Really?"
"Hey, all I have is this fork while you have scissors and weird bits of metal, string and shit," she explained, rolling her eyes before she tossed the girl at me. I caught her, laughing a little before grabbing my stuff and walking with her to this little house. She wasn't kidding when she said the place was small. It looked like a two room home with a small attic. She walked inside and sighed with relief as she said,"Thank god it's still here, I thought they found it and tore it down." I chuckled softly and looked around. it was plain with white bricks, a small oven and fridge with a sink and some cabinets along with a table and some chairs. In the other room there was a small latch that led to the attic and a two person bed along with a small dresser and a wardrobe. Luc just opened the hatch and took the girl up the ladder before tying her up to a chair and saying,"Just so ya know, if you try to escape, you'll only be working up a sweat, and watching people work makes me hungry." I rolled my eyes before saying,

"You're always hungry, hare."

"Hare," she asked, giving me a confused look before I smiled and explained,

"Yeah, y'know the Alice In Wonderland story? It's like you're the Hare and I'm the Mad Hatter." She chuckled softly before saying,

"I like that, nice one."
