Cole's POV

What the hell is up with the lights? This definitely wasn't a normal dark. It was like all the light was drained from the world.

I growled using my smell to guide me to my beta, Carson.

Carson and I had always been like brothers even though we competed over everything.

Whenever my father died two years ago, and I was made Alpha, the first thing I did was assign Carson as my beta.

Cole, where are you?

I shook my head trying to think of an answer for Carson.

I'm still in the pack house. Do you know what happened?

Fuck, no.

Suddenly all the light came back nearly blinding me.

I was in the bathroom, weird.

"Cole, where are you?" Carson shouted close by.

Grumbling, I stepped out of the bathroom jogging towards his voice.

"Dammit Carson, I'm over here. Use your sense of smell, Mutt." I smirked watching as Carson turned around looking embarrassed before he smiled shaking his head.

He walked over to me punching my shoulder and I gave a light growl. He was lucky no one was around because I am still his alpha.

"Lighten up, Cole." He rolled his eyes before pointing outside."That was not normal darkness, dude. I have only seen weak magic before, but..that was powerful. Do you think there's a witch around here?"

I looked outside, scowling. Was there a fucking witch in my pack?!

"Beta, get ten more men, including the seven already patrolling, and go watch the border. I need to go check on something."

Or someone.

Shut up, Jake.

Carson nodded at me before jogging off to patrol.

I turned back to Amara's room determined to make sure she was safe.

I opened her door seeing her bed empty.

Panic erupted in my chest as I marched over to the bathroom banging on the door.

"Amara, are you in there?!"

No answer.

Shit, shit, shit.

I sprinted out following her smell.

Jake, anything from Amara's wolf?

He let out a sad, worried howl in my head answering my question.

I growled changing into my wolf as soon as I was outside.

Then a thought hit me.

Did she run away from me?

Just the thought brought a strange strike of pain to my heart.

She wouldn't leave me. She couldn't.

She could.

I ran as fast as I could towards her smell as stupid unnecessary tears filled my eyes.

Are you crying?

Psh. No! My eyes are sweating.

Suddenly, a scream erupted from somewhere in the forest. Even from the distance I could tell who it was.

Amara.

You know how people say when you are in a life-or-death situation you become super human strong?

Well, it's true.

Except; I was already super human so I guess it would be super super human strength.

As I heard her scream my body seemed to double in strength. I ran twice as fast as I ever had.

I couldn't loose another mate.

Her scent was now mixed with a more putrid one.

It smelled like actual damn shit.

Well; shit and pine, but the shit more than anything.

Maybe it is a monster made from a nuclear explosion containing pine trees and pig shit.

Really? You are talking of shit monsters when our mate is most likely being attacked?!

Point taken. I'll shut up.

I focused on the woods in front of me. Their scents were getting-

Sorry, if I was being an idiot.

I growled shaking my head hearing a deep voice in the distance.

What if-

Really, I was just nervous, and I will honestly will shut up. Do you think-

JUST SHUT UP, JAKE!

Suddenly, I felt super light headed. I tried to change back into my human, but even I was too weak to do so.

Cole! It's the mate bond! She must be pretty hurt if we are feeling this when we haven't even marked her.

The dizziness was too much though, and darkness surrounded me just as I heard Carson's voice somewhere far away.

Yeah, I know. Short chapter. Sorry not sorry, Cole is really hard to work with since I can't really "think like a man".

So now it's time to answer to some of your comments.

1. Pythios and Damion are still in the book! They have not been cut out if that is what you are thinking.

2. The moon goddess did NOT assign Amara her mates. Amara actually has no idea who has and eventually you WILL find out.

3. Carson will not know if of if not Amara is his mate until she wakes up. So don't give up on that idea!
