"Love doesn't discriminate,

between the sinners and the saints,

it takes, it takes, and it takes."

Chapter Fourteen

There are always two sides of a coin; heads and tails, up and down — and which side is facing up and which lands?

It's agreeable that love and hate stands in the same line. They're two sides of the same coin and even if played right, you won't end up with the former or the latter. They exist with each other, disappear without one another. The scale doesn't tip off on one side, it stands sturdy and balanced. Both side weighs equally and just.

Rin is knowledgeable about hate.

The burning feeling and the thirst for blood whenever the subject appears. She knows what its like to have your blood boiling in anger, eyes flashing with resentment -- all directed to one subject. Again, she is a good  old friend of hate.

But love is a subject that doesn't ring a bell inside her head.

People talk about love like they talk about the weather. It is a topic no one can avoid, something that can be discussed either casually or with a heart-to-heart conversation, by everyone of every age universally. Love has its own many, many definitions and interpretations, of course. It is worshipped in poems, stories, literatures from a cult classic to your one-click-away-fanfictions. Still, Rin is not so sure that she knows how to define love—what to define it as.

Shame on her childhood, perhaps. Or the years she spent nonchalantly brushing any topic whatsoever about love and its many forms. There is Sakuya, of course. Her childhood sweetheart. Rin doesn't know if it's truly the love every soul desired about. She knows that it's probably not. But if she's to sit still and tell the crowd about her views on love, she is more than certain that the only thing that would come out of her mouth is air.

'Act like you're in love.'

A shiver runs through her spine. Even after she takes off (albeit, delayed by a couple of formalities, but those are details) out of the scene minutes ago after she somehow managed to get it done, the exact words they were saying stuck in her head like a siren. She has developed quite a thick skin after dealing with harsh words and silver tongues of the entertainment business, but this struck her like Zeus' lightning bolt.

Love, love, love.

She bites into her nail the second time. The word sounds so simple and brief yet it's so utterly complex and head-turning as it is perplexing and foreign. It's as cruel as it is kind. Oh, how she talks like she understood.

A knock comes upon her door, she drops the coat hanging on her arms to answer it—knocking into a couple of feather hats and a pair of gladiators. She grasps the metal handle, turning it open.

"Yes?"

Soft violet eyes fills her vision as he grins, his dimples showing before it fades away into a relaxed smile. Rin feels her breath hitch as he gestures if he can come inside. She nods—hurriedly—before stepping away and crossing her arms.
