Chapter 1.
"Hey, mom," I said. "Yes, Lena?" She asked.
"What will happen to you guys if I go to college?" I asked. I heard her gulp.
"I don't know, depends on your brothers.. Me," she paused. "I will miss you..." She said. I smiled at that part.
"I'm gonna miss you too when I'm in college already.." I said.
I was done eating my eggs and bacon. I sling my bag to my shoulder. Dad went down and grabbed the keys that are lying on the counter. He went outside and I followed.
He started the car and I went in to the passengers seat and he went in the driver's seat. I dug through my bag, searching for my iPod to listen to some music and dug for my earphones and found them.
Me and dad haven't talked for a while so he broke the silence.
"Lena," he said. Didn't heard him so he grabbed my hand and I pulled one earphone away from my ear and said, "what?"
"We haven't talked in while since you were ten," he paused. "What happened?" He asked.
"Um, when I was ten, that's when I acted mature because the future today is all about technology...?" I answered in a question.
"Doesn't mean the future is changing so you have to act mature about it," he said.
"Dad," I paused. "I'm growing up and I'm acting like a lady, already," I paused again. "Time will fly dad.. I'm not that girl anymore." I said.
"I know that, I just want to know you better," he paused. "Let's have a father-daughter time tomorrow because you and your mom are always having a mother-daughter time." He raised his eyebrows when he said that to me.
"Dad, the reason why me and mom are always having a mother-daughter time together is because you are always working.." I said, in a stern voice.
"And you changed your attitude. Your not the girl who would always call for us to be happy and hang out." He said.
"People change, dad.." I said. I put back my other earphone back on my ear and stared outside the window.
With dad driving me to school, it was pretty awkward. This is why I don't like having so much time with my dad because he keeps on reminding me that I'm not the old me. Why does he have to be so annoying sometimes?
We arrived. I stopped my music and put my iPod in my bag. I was ready to go but then dad grabbed my hand and he kissed me on the cheek to say goodbye. I went out already and he drove away.
I walked inside and I saw Kelly picking her books from her locker. I ran towards her and gave her a shock which I made her drop her books.
"Oops.. Sorry.." I gave an innocent smile while saying that. She just gives me a death glare.
"Not funny, Lena.." She said. She bent down to pick her books and I helped. Hey, I'm a helping friend.
"So," I paused. "I saw Bryce yesterday.." I teased. Bryce is Kelly's crush. She's obsessed with him since 4th grade.
Her jaw dropped and made a really loud scream that almost made me deaf. I put my pinky in my ear and made a face.
"No way!!" She said. I fake a smile. "Yeah.." I said. She keeps on mumbling. "Ahem, he doesn't like you, ahem.." I teased. She heard that.
"You're mean," she said. I shrug. Cecilia passed by me and we held hands and let go. Hey, I have a lot of friends because I'm so popular here in school.
"Cecile will be running to be the school's secretary." Kelly said. "No way!" I screamed. I put my two fingers on my mouth and whistled at Cecile. She stopped walking and she turned at me. I gestured her to come here.
"What?" She asked. "Cece, you didn't told me that you were running for school secretary!" I whined.
"I was making it a surprise for you but since Kelly spoiled it," she paused and glared at Kelly. Kelly shrugged
"She deserves to know!" She said. "Anyways, you two will help me make posters!" She said happily. I giggled.
"When?" I asked.
"Tomorrow." Cecile said. I groaned. I pressed my forehead to my locker.
"What's wrong?" Cecile asked. "Father-daughter time tomorrow, my dad said..." I said in a boring voice.
"Well, you deserve a father-daughter time with him.." Kelly said. "Yeah, I haven't seen you two talked for a while! What happened?" Cecile asked.
"Well," I gulped. "He was so busy with work!" I yelled. Then the school bell rang. I didn't even get to pick my books.
"See ya in chem, Kel." Cecile said and she waved goodbye at me. "Come on, Lena." Kelly said.
"I'll catch up." I said. She shrugged and ran to the classroom.
I picked my books for English class and ran to the classroom. I went inside the classroom and Ms. Jean is writing something on the board so I tiptoed to my chair and she finally looked back and saw me.
"Ms. Robinson, you're late!" Ms. Jean said. "Have a seat. Next time if you're late again, I'll put an F- to all your quizzes." She said as she sat down on her chair.
"You're black.." I muttered. Kelly heard it and laughed. "What was that, Ms. Robinson?" She asked with her stern voice.
"I said you're looking pretty today!" I fake a smile then she looked back at her class record again.
I grabbed my book and I turned to the page that is written on the board and read.
Few minutes later, a new kid come into the classroom. Ms. Jean stood up.
"Um, good morning, I'm Andrew Garfield and I'm joining your class today." Andrew said. "I am Ms. Jean, your english teacher and go find an empty seat." Ms. Jean said and he just nodded.
I looked to my right side and it's Kelly who's sitting beside me and I turned to my left and no one was sitting in there. S***! I don't wanna seat beside a new kid.
Then he came towards me and asked, "is someone sitting here?" Pointing to the chair that is empty.
"No..." I said. "Thank you." He said. I thought to myself,
Ugh, why does he have to be so polite.. I could've lied.. Well, lets go back to reading..
