The Girl Next Door

Chapter 20 - Double Date.

"This is gonna be so awkward" Annie whispered.

"I know right" I agreed to Annie. "Well Katie, we didn't buy anything for you. You know, cause we didn't know that you would even be here" Annie said to Katie. "Oh it's okay. Caleb would buy me some food later" Katie said back.

I'm still quite surprised by Katie's presence, that I didn't even lay a finger on my burger yet. "You didn't know that Caleb was gonna hang out at the mall with me?" Katie asked Annie. "Erm, before I left, he did mention that he's gonna go out later. I thought he was gonna go to the park or something" Annie answered.

Then, while we were having a conversation about all that, Caleb arrived.

He was just as shocked as me and Annie. But Katie looked so oddly, happy. "Oh hey Caleb" Katie said to him. "Hey, umm.. didn't know it was gonna be a full house. I thought it was just you and me Kat" Caleb nervously said.

"S'up Caleb" I said. "Hey bubs" Annie said to Caleb. "Hi guys" he said back.

"Well.. while you were in the restroom, I saw Calum and Annie in McDonalds. So I went in to surprise them" Katie explained. "Oh" Caleb simply said.

Things got awkward, fast, just as Annie predicted.

"So.." I tried to break the ice. "So.." Caleb said back. "Aren't you guys gonna get anything to eat?" Annie asked as she ate a chicken nugget.

"Yeah, that's probably a good idea" Caleb answered. "What do you wanna eat Katie?" he asked Katie. "Umm, I don't know" she answered. "Ill just follow you over there, to look at the menu" Katie added. "Okay" Caleb said as they both stood up and walked to the ordering line, and lined up.

"Omg Calum, we need to get out of here" Annie said to me. "Your so cute when your awkward" I laughed. "I'm serious Cal, I can't handle the awkwardness" she said back.

"Same. But, how?" I asked. "Lets just finish this and excuse ourselves" she points to the food on the table. "Ill follow your lead" I said back.

Just as we finished planning, Caleb and Katie arrived with their food. "Missed us?" Katie laughed. Both Annie and I just laughed awkwardly.

"So anyways, Caleb and I are planning to go bowling later. It would mean the world to me if you guys tag along" Katie said. Annie looked at me and shook her head slowly. "Umm I'm not sure if we could join in. Well, I have a lazy arm today" I tried my best to reject the offer without hurting her feelings.

"Aw cmon, it'll be fun" Katie insisted. "I would love to, but I hurt my arm during gymnastics the other day" Annie said to her. "Ouch, really?" Katie asked. "Yeah, it hurts pretty bad" Annie answered.

"Well it seems like you guys are made for each other cause both of you guys have bad arms at the same time" she laughed. "Hehe yeah" I awkwardly laughed along.

"Anyways Annie, does mom know your here?" Caleb asked Annie. "Yeah" Annie answered. "I told her I was going out to the mall and she said okay" she added. "What about you huh. Does mom know that your here?" Annie asked back.

"Of course" Caleb answered. "I'm like the peach of the family. She'll let me do what I want" he added.

"You sure? How about I ask mom right now?" Annie said to Caleb. "No don't do that" Caleb quickly said back. "Why? I thought your the peach of the family" Annie laughed.

"Haha very funny" Caleb said sarcastically. "Look, I told her I'm going out to the park. So don't blow my cover okay?" he added. "Yeah sure. Just don't steal any of my clothes ever again" Annie said.

"Omg, that was for a truth plus dare Annie. It was just a prank" Caleb said back. "Whatever" Annie sassed.

"Anyways, I think we better get going. Right Annie?" I said. "Yeah. See you guys around" Annie said.

Katie looked pretty down. "Okay" she said. "Bye guys" she added. "Bye guys" Caleb said as well. "Buhbye" I said as I waved my hands. "Bye" Annie said as we walked out of the restaurant.

"Caleb stole your clothes?" I laughed. "Yeah. He's such a weirdo" Annie said to me. I just laughed it out.

"Glad that's over with" Annie said. "Yeah it was getting intense back there" I said back. "Not really, it was just a normal brother and sister fight" Annie said. I just said "oh".

"So you guys do that often?" I asked. "What? Argue? Yeah we do that all the time. He's just really annoying sometimes" she answered. "But he is your big bro right" I said. "Yeah" she smiled.

"So where are we going now?" I asked. "I don't really know. Todays like an off day for dresses, babe. Haven't seen a nice dress all day" Annie said.

"I guess they don't want me to spend all this money" I laughed. "I guess so" she said back.

"I'm pretty exhausted right now" Annie said as she yawned. "Yeah it's been a long day" I said back. "So you wanna just go home?" she asked. "Sure. There's nothing really left to do" I answered.

We walked to the taxi stop to wait for a cab. And when a cab arrived, we went it and went back home.

"Its been a really weird date" I said to her as we were standing outside of her front door. "I know right? Weird doesn't even describe it" Annie said back. "Anyways, it's been great spending time with you" I said.

We both awkwardly waited for one of us to make a move for a kiss or something, but it never came. We just hugged tightly and she said "I love you Cal". "Love you too Annie" I said back.

She went out of my arms and opened the front door. "Bye" she said with a smile. "Bye Annie" I said back as she went inside.
