Back Home (Chase)

I don't know what the girls are up to but I kind of wanted this guy time. Red Z and Robin are on the couch playing a video game and I wait for my turn. Anyway, I can't get Rose off my mind and I'm wondering what she's doing right now and I would give anything to be with her. Red Z jumps beside me as he groans and the screen announces that player one has died. He hands me the remote and I gladly take it trying to focus on the game, but Rose is still in my head. I'm losing control of my player and I try to regain it. Robin is good, I have to admit. My phone startles me as it rings. I lose and quickly see it's Peter. I turn to Red Z, "hey I have to take this," I say. He nods and I stand up to head to the restroom.

I lock the door behind me and answer to Peter. "Hello?"

"Hey Chase, I just wanted to ask you if you think Rose would mind if I borrow Genius," he says.

"What? I don't know, why are you asking me?" I look at my confused reflection in the mirror.

"Oh," there's a pause, "It's just she won't pick up so I thought she might have been with you." I hear wind blow through the speaker and I know that he's outside.

"Oh. No she's not with me." where could she be?

"Ok well I'm taking Genius. If you see her tell her I took her dog. Bye Chase."

The call disconnects before I have a chance to ask what he's doing. I take this opportunity and call Rose. It rings for a while ,"Hi this is Rose,"

"Hey Rose-" I'm cut off.

"-I can't answer right now but please leave a message and I shall call you back soon. Thank you." great it's her voice mail. Batman's voice rings through the intercom.

"Team, go to the briefing room, you have a mission." I get out of the bathroom quickly. Everyone's already in the room, including the girls and they all look ready for anything.

Batman begins talking, "we've gathered intel on some sightings of highly-skilled robbers disturbing the peace of New York City. The robberies are, not strangely, targeted towards rich citizens usually just walking on the streets,"

"Yeah we kind of figured," Catness replies with edginess. Robin's face flickers some sadness for a split second.

Batman ignores the comment and goes on, "not only are they really rich, but they're also have a lot of power and their tragedies are well known to the people of Manhattan. Manhattan is where most of the sightings have occurred and we are not sure why. Your job is to investigate who is involved, suspects and victims. Of course this will take a couple of days but to make this quicker I'll split you up into two groups. Robin, Spell, and Red Z you will be investigating the victims. Supermartian, Superboy, Catness, and Light Struck you will be investigating the suspects. I expect this investigation to commence next week on Saturday. Now you are free to disband."

Perfect we can leave now. We all go through the boom tubes. I hide away from everyone changing back to my normal clothing. Now I need to get home. As I arrive at my house I hear Skylar's voice around the corner of the house. I walk over to see Rose and Artemis along with my sister sitting on the grass of my backyard. I was about to go inside when Artemis greets me. I turn back around walk towards the girls, "hey," I say sitting next to her.

"What have you been doing today?" she asks with a sweet smile. Her green eyes meet my blue ones and I quickly avert my eyes suddenly feeling shy.

"Nothing much. I've actually just been studying for the upcoming finals week." I say and look back up focusing on her long ginger hair.

"Are you kidding Chase? You are such a nerd! Finals are still a month away." Rose says. My attention turns to her, but she doesn't look at me.

"Well I really need to catch up on photography. You have to memorize a lot of really important parts of the actual camera itself. Not to mention all the fifty principles of taking good pictures, and that's just one class!" she looks up with uninterested brown eyes.

"Oh yeah I forgot you took photography." Skylar says trying to lift the tension. Her blue eyes travel to Rose as she just tears grass of the ground.

"Is something wrong? Something that I'm missing here?" Artemis uneasily shifts. I shrug at her and push my glasses up.

"Hey Chase." I turn around to meet my eyes with Stacey's. Her grey eyes shimmer with excitement framed by her blond hair. She sits down next to me and rests her head on my shoulder.

"Oh hey. What are you doing here?" I ask and put an arm around her.

"Just stopping by to say hello." The wind blows a few strands of her hair to my face and I can smell the sweet strawberry shampoo she uses.

Rose gets up. "Well I have to go now but I'll see you guys at school tomorrow." she says that more to Skylar and Artemis than to me. Just as she starts to leave my mom comes out.

"Dinner is ready! Care to join us girls?" her eyes flicker over all of us.

"No thanks Mrs. Kent I'm fine." Rose leaves.

"What's wrong with her?" my mom asks looking at Rose cross the street.

"We don't know. Anyway I can't either Mrs. Kent I have a lot of homework to do for tomorrow, but thanks anyway." Artemis says and walks away too.

"What about you Stacey?" Stacey sits up and nods. "Great well come in it's chilly out here."

Skylar gets up and I follow behind Stacey. Great I'm starving.
