Family Matters Most

Chapter Seven :

It's been about a week since Matt and Audrey came back and picked up Lily and Alex has been kinda upset. Shane was working today, he said it'd be a long night at the station , but he knew Alex has been kind of down so he told me to bring her to the station. "Baby girl, want to go see daddy at the station?" I asked her." I put Alex in her car seat and we went down to the station. She wasn't as excited as she normally was to be at the station, I carried her in and Rick seen us. "Hey Hannah and Alex," I smiled, "Hey Rick." Alex kept her head on my shoulder, not looking at Rick. "Everything okay with Alex?" He asked. "She's been kind of sad since Lily left sometime last week," I said. He shook his head, "Alex if you want you can come over and play with Carl whenever you want," He said. She looked up at him and grinned. "Mommy can I?" She asked excitedly. "Yeah Alex, you can. Let's go see your daddy and then we'll stop by," I replied. Rick put his hand on my shoulder, "Thanks Rick," I said. "No problem, Shane should be in his office." He walked out of the station and I went to his office. "Daddy, daddy guess what!" Alex exclaimed as she bounced in my arms. "What's got you all excited baby doll?" Shane asked. "Rick said I could play with Carl!!" I sat her down and she ran over to him, "That's great!" He said. I sat down in the chair in front of his desk, "Once we leave here I'm gonna stop by and see if Lori and Carl are home and let them play for awhile," I said. Shane smiled, "Sounds good. Do you know what you're fixing for supper?" He asked. "I'm not sure yet, want anything specific?" I asked. "What about pizza?" He asked. "Pizza!" Alex said excitedly. "Okay, I guess I'll stop and get pizza," I chuckled. 15 minutes later Alex finished up her conversation with Shane and I kissed him and we left.

I pulled into Rick and Lori's driveway and seen Lori's car. "Hurry up mommy!" Alex said impatiently. "Don't rush me," I chuckled. I got her out and she ran to their front door and knocked. Lori answered the door, "Hey Alex, Hannah." Alex looked up at her, "Carl?" Lori laughed, "He's in the living room." She stepped out of the way and Alex ran inside. "Hey Lori," I said. "What have y'all been up to?" She asked. "Not much. We came over here after seeing Shane at the station," I said. Alex and Carl were playing out back while Lori and I sat on the porch and talked. Lori looked at her watch, "Rick should be coming home for lunch soon."

Shane's POV :
"Hey Shane, I think Hannah and Alex are at my house, do you want to me come with me for lunch?" Rick asked. "Yeah, thanks," I said. I followed him out to his police car and we went to his house. "Lori, I'm home," Rick called out. "We're out back," She hollered back. We walked out on the porch and I walked over and kissed Hannah's head. Alex and Carl were playing until she noticed me sitting by Hannah, "Daddy!" She started running, "Be careful baby," Hannah said. Once Alex got to me she climbed up in my lap. "You been good baby doll?" I asked. She grinned, "Yes daddy." Lori stood up, "Hannah, do you want to help me make lunch?" Hannah smiled, "Sure." She kissed my cheek and Alex's head and followed Lori inside. "Alex, why don't you go back and continue playing with Carl," I suggested. She tried to get off my lap, but she wasn't talk enough. "Help," She said. I chuckled and sat her down. She ran off and Rick and I started talking. "You got yourself a nice little family," Rick said. I smiled, "Thank you." We continued talking until the girls hollered that lunch was done, "Alex come on," I yelled across the yard. Her and Carl raced across the yard. We all sat down and the table and ate lunch.

Hannah's POV :
We finished lunch and Shane and Rick headed back to the station. Carl and Alex played for a little while longer and then we headed home.

"Mommy I'm tired," Alex pouted. We walked up to her room and I helped her change into some pajamas and tucked her in. "I'll be in my room if you need me," I said. She nodded her head and closed her eyes. I went and changed into some shorts and a tank top. I grabbed the book I was currently reading and sat down on my bed.

After awhile later I guess I had fallen asleep, I woke up because Shane was calling my name downstairs. "Up here, Alex is sleeping," I said. He walked up the steps and kissed me, "I love you," He said. "I love you too," I replied. He went to take a shower and I checked on Alex. As I went to close her door I heard her say, "Mommy." I walked over to her, "What baby?" She lifted her her arms up, signaling for me to pick her up. I carried her into Shane and I's room. "Hey baby, I'm gonna ne-," Shane stopped mid-sentence and grinned, "Hey baby doll." Alex giggled, "Hi Daddy." We all laid in the bed and watched cartoons, Alex's pick.
