Karkat and I have study hall together, but no other classes other than that. The final bell rings, and I turn to his desk beside mine. We sit together in almost every class we have share, since empty seats are usually grouped in one area.

"Should we get going?" I ask.

"Sure. My car's in the back, so we're going to have to walk through the rain, but we'll just have to deal with it I guess." I look outside, seeing the rain pitter-patter onto the clear windows.

"Oh." I say simply.
We make our way out to the parking lot, running as fast as we can through the pouring rain. Quickly, Karkat unlocks the door to his silver Honda and we hurriedly climb in. It's a crappy car, but at least it shelters us from the rain.

"It's a junkie, but it runs well despite its shitty appearance " he informs.

"That's okay. I really don't mind. It's not like I have a car, anyways." My car was destroyed in the accident.

"Then how the fuck do you get around?"

"I walk a lot. The bus is also pretty useful, but other than that I haven't had any need to drive. All I get out of the house for is groceries, really, and Wal-Mart is just a few minutes away." I'm glad he doesn't ask why I don't have a car. In fact, when I think about it, he does a really good job about not prying into things like my lack of transportation, or my emancipated minorship.

"Well, if you want, I could drive you if you don't wanna take the bus. You get STDs just from sitting on the seats." I laugh, but am touched by the gesture.

"Thanks, Karkat."

"No problem. You don't have to thank me, or anything." He says. His face is grumpy, but his tone is bashful. We sit in comfortable silence for a for a few minutes until we reach his apartment complex, which begins to look quite familiar...

"Hey, this is my complex!" I say with a laugh. He grunts.

"Huh. Well I guess I can drive you to school, too, if you want." I smile.

"I told you you were a teddy bear "

"Shut the fuck up."

"Nope!" He sighs and pulls into an empty parking space.

"You have officially been told several times about my brother, so don't say I didn't warn you. Seriously, y/ n, be prepared for a very large 'I told you so'."

"I doubt it."

"Whatever you say..." We get out and head to the second floor. He pulls out the keys and unlocks it, opening the door in slow suspense. "Kankri? I'm home... " A troll of nearly identical description pokes his head out of the small kitchen.

"Hello, Karkat, is this your friend of female gender you texted me about? I'm sorry if my question may have triggered you, miss..."

"Y/ n ." I say.

"What a nice name, y/ n. How was your first day of class?"

"It was nice, although the people are kind of rude... at least I met Karkat. I also found out that we live in the same apartment complex."

"How nice is that. Have you been moved here long?"

"No, just about a week. I've barely gotten settled in, and I already have to start school, but I don't really mind."

"I do hope you settle in nicely. The neighbors seem normal, so at least there's no college students partying all night." He says, referring to the community college just a few miles away.

"Thank you for the warm welcome!" I reply. Karkat stares in horror.

"How the fuck can you two have this conversation? It's like I just arrived at fucking snoozetown, for Christ's sake."
