The Slytherin Prince [Draco Malfoy]

Prologue I

It was a gloomy morning, the sky coated with dark clouds at the Prince Manor. Deep inside this small manor was a pair of old couple, Leon and Sofia Prince. As of tonight, the pure-blood family was left with no heir to continue the family line. Their only son, William Prince was met with a fatal accident during a wizards protest. He was in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement for 6 years, in which he met his beautiful wife, Katherine Rosier. They were pure-bloods, but absolutely kind and fair to both wizards and muggle-borns. Though one might not say the same for their families.

The Prince was a small wizarding family after Leon and Sofia's generation. They only had 3 children, the eldest Morgan, then Eileen and William.

Katherine, carrying William's first and only child, held onto her stomach with her head hung low, weeping endlessly over the loss of her husband. Only married for a short four years, he was already gone from their lives. In her black vintage veil and black dress suit, her baby bump was hardly visible. Sitting beside her was her Sister-in-law, Morgan and her 19 years old Nephew-in-law, Severus Snape.

The first to break the stoic atmosphere was Sofia. With black spots and wrinkles gracing her face, and the mop of silver on her head as she spoke.

"Katherine. William is gone now." She sounded harsh and cold, for her precious son, the only one she was proud of, was taken away from her. Katherine split more tears with this rising tension. "But you have his child now.. He- the child comes first." The old witch knew this one in her tummy would turn out to be a boy. He must be! Then he can inherit the Prince Manor in place of her dear William. At the thought of her son, she couldn't help but shed a tear or two.

"Yes mother." She wiped her tears with a handkerchief at hand. Slowly, Morgan rested her hand above hers and squeezed to comfort her. Maybe the usual her wouldn't care so much for this sister-in-law of hers. Well being single for all her life as a witch, she couldn't feel what she felt. But she did after all lose two of her siblings in the past two years. Eileen passed when Severus was only 17, and now William too.

Severus glanced over at his aunt Katherine, not knowing what to say to console her. Although he was close to his maternal side, the Prince, but not so much with this aunt who works for the Ministry of Magic. He unconsciously held onto his lower arms that bore the death mark.

"Shall we go now Mother? The burial would begin soon." Morgan reminded with a coarse voice. "Oh but.." She had wanted to mention Tobias Snape, Severus's father why he wasn't present, but she was glad she didn't. However, everyone knew what she was going at, including Severus. He clenched his hands tightly, thinking it was his curse to have a father like him, a mudblood and a useless junk who only knew how to hit his mother.

The atmosphere immediately took a turn for the worst. Old Sofia frowned deeply, her dry lips curled uglily when she thought of that good for nothing drunkard. Because of that muggle pig she and Leon nearly disowned their second daughter Eileen. From her sideways view she saw that her old partner too was fuming at the idea of that muggle showing up. So she grabbed his arms with her frail ones and led the family out towards the graveyard. Just after crossing the hill, the three generations could overlook the graveyard from above. It wasn't too huge, just for their ancestors and relatives.

The Rosier family joined soon after, and they gave their consolations and kind words to the Princes. But it was pretty obvious that they were all shallow words. Katherine's parents seemed to blame them for their daughter's state of widow while the other old couple secretly blamed Katherine for their son's ill fate.

After a solemn burial, the two pure-blood families slowly walked back to the manor together, like a group of dark cloaked figures from afar. More kind gestures followed to the grieving family, then Katherine's father brought her aside to speak in private.

"Katy.. Don't worry too much. You're still young, su-"
"I won't.. I won't remarry anyone else." Her red puffy eyes brimmed with determination. "Dad.. I love William too much.. I.."

"I know little one.. But we just want you to be happy." Katherine nodded and cried in her father's arms while he tapped her back lightly.
