Part 6

Katherine rolled onto her side, she felt Dan’s warm chest against her back and she snuggled against him. There was light intruding through the curtains but she tried ignore it for she could have stayed like that forever; still and silent, the feeling of Dan breathing in and out gently against her. Dan placed one arm over Katherine and pulled her closer, placing a kiss on her neck. A smile spread across her face, she completely relaxed. Dan made Katherine feel calm, harmonious, placid, tranquil, nonbelligerent and every other synonym peaceful. He felt like home. As Katherine started to blink her eyes open the pounding in her head began and the memories of each shot and cocktail started to come back. She raised one hand to her forehead and it felt like her whole brain was throbbing, buzzing around inside her skull like a wasp trying to get out of a jam jar. She let out a tired and painful groan and rolled over so that her Dan were face to face.

“Morning.” Katherine grumbled.

“How’s your head?” Dan teased, he sniggered slightly.

“DOonn’t!” Katherine winged covering her face with her hands. They both let out a breathy giggle.  Just then there was a knock at the door. “Come in.” Katherine called. She turned slightly to face the door. Alisha stuck her face in.

“Hey do you want a cup of, OMIgod Dan I didn’t know you were here I’m sorry I’ll just go.” She immediately went out and closed the door. Dan and Katherine both laughed hysterically.

They got up and Dan got dressed into last night’s clothes. Katherine put on her dressing gown and walked down with him to the front door. They hugged goodbye and Dan stepped out onto the street. He started to walk away but before Katherine closed the door, he jumped back up the step grabbed hold of Katherine’s face pulling her in for one last kiss. As he pulled away she smiled up at him.

“Sorry but I couldn’t leave without saying goodbye properly.” Dan whispered, while Katherine gazed at his lips.

“You don’t have to apologise” She giggled. “But I really do need to go and take a shower.” He kissed her quickly and softly and jumped down off the step and started down the street. He didn’t get very far before stopping again.

“Wait,” Dan called and Katherine turned back to look in his direction “I have to go to a stupid family garden party thing this afternoon, will you come with me?”

“Yeah sure.” A beam spread across Katherine’s face.

“I’ll go home and get ready and I’ll pick you up later?”

“Sounds great.” Katherine stood at the door and watched as Dan walked down the street towards the tube station. As soon as he was out of eye-shot she ran upstairs and straight into the shower.

Although all three still hungover from the night before, Alisha, Jenna and Katherine all spent the next hour trying to get Katherine ready for Dan’s arrival. Alisha gave Katherine a French manicure whilst Jenna curled her hair. And whilst Jenna did Katherine’s make up, Alisha picked her outfit. She wore a cream skirt with red flowers and cream crop top and cream heels. Dan hadn’t specified the dress code of the garden party so they tried to keep it smart casual with a girly innocent twist.

At half past two, the doorbell buzzed and they squealed like teenage girls at a Justin Bieber concert. Katherine went down to the door and Dan was stood outside, behind him was a car pulled on to the curb Phil sat behind the wheel.

“Ready?” He asked. She nodded her head as he took her hand leading her to the car. It felt like déjà vu of their first date and Katherine got butterflies in her tummy. She didn’t know why she was so excited; maybe it was because Dan already felt like he was ready to introduce her to his family or maybe she already knew that her and Dan had something special. Either way she felt like today could only get better.
