It's the End of the World

Chapter 2

The next day before I went to school my aunt told me that she was going to have someone pick me up from school that I was going to live with. Around 2nd period, the office called and told me to come to the office prepared to leave. This confused me a little bit, but I pushed it aside. The first thing I noticed about the man in the office who was supposed to pick me up was that he had the Madrigal symbol on his shirt.

"Hello... Dad."

This man looked nothing like my dad except for the fact that he wasn't smiling. I could tell that he was a little annoyed that he had to pick a kid up from school.

"Hello... Son. Are you ready to go."

"Yes." At this point, questions started popping up into my head. Who was this man? Why was he picking me up in the middle of school?

Once we got into his very nice Chevy pickup, the questions started bursting out of my mouth.

"My name is Justin. I'm a top Madrigal/Ekat agent. I'm picking you up because you are about to go on a very important mission."

"I'm going on a mission! What's it about!"

In response he told me to call Amy and Dan on my Cahill phone. So I did and they told me about my first mission, which was exactly like the one on this website where you go to Greece. When they came to one word, it seemed as if my heart had stopped beating. Vespers. I hadn't heard that word in a long time. After the clue hunt I went on another mission to find out information about the Vespers, which I hadn't heard about before then. The mission led me to a top-secret Vesper book. In the book, it mentioned that there was about to be an era of the Vespers. It had been so long since then that I had almost forgotten about it. When it did pop back up into my head, I dismissed it as false. Now, just the thought of the Vespers being back brought me shudders. After the video call was over, Justin drove me to the airport. On the ride there, I thought I might break the silence.

"So, we're related."

"Unfortunately."

"OK then."

"Look, I don't know why they picked YOU for this mission, but I do know that after it's over, you can go back to school with your friends and we'll never have to see each other again."

"So, I'm not going to live with you?"

"No, you're someone else's problem."

"Oh. Well remember what you said about me going back to my friends?"

"Yeah, what about it?"

"I don't really have any friends."

"Oh. Well that makes two of us," he said in a less hostile tone.

In brief, this is what happened on my mission: I went to Greece to try to gain some information on the Vespers, but when I broke into their "stronghold" I got knocked out by knockout gas. They took me as a captive on their boat, but I picked the lock, found my boat and escaped. The song I was listening to on my boat when I was driving away from the Vespers was "Buy Me a Boat" by Chris Janson. 

When I came back from escaping the Vesper boat, I found out that the other 7 Cahills that were kidnapped didn't escape.

I met Justin in the airport.

"You're here."

"Yeah, what do you mean by that?"

"Well, it's just that, I'm used to all of my other friends ditching me and not being my friend anymore." That was when I realized I said the word "friend".

"I didn't mean friend I meant-"

And for the first time since I saw him, he smiled.
