The Wednesday morning before I went back to school, Justin called me into the living room.

"Hey, so I heard that there's a homecoming dance coming up at your school. I bet that's fun, right?"

"I wouldn't use the word fun to describe it. More like stupid. I hate dances."

"Oh, then that's gonna make this harder to say," he muttered under his breath. "So, the Vespers. They're scary people right?"

"I know, ever since I went back to school last Friday, I was afraid that there was going to be a Vesper at my school trying to kill me because I escaped them and blew up their boat."

"Yeah, well- WAIT, YOU BLEW UP THEIR BOAT!!!!!!!!"

"Yeah, I mean, even after I managed to get to the rendezvous point, they were still chasing us, so I had to do something to get them to stop. Which is why I thought they might be a tad mad and try to get someone to go to my school and try to kill me. But that's not very likely, right?"

"Yeah well, there is. He/she is nicknamed the "Control 0" because their job is to turn everyone at your school into a Vesper."

"WHAT!!!!!!!! Who is it?!"

"Well, we don't really know. But we do know that he/she is going to the homecoming dance. So you're going to have to go too. Unless you want to die," he said, feeling very uncomfortable.

"Well, this day stinks."

"Yeah well, it gets worse. So, the Vespers don't really officially know that you're the Cahill, so you're going to have to get a date to the dance too."

"What does getting a date have to do with anything?"

"Well since the Vespers don't officially know that you're the Cahill, If you go to the dance without a date, that's going to make you look really suspicious."

"Yeah, so, you do realize the dance is next Friday!!! You're basically asking me to do the impossible!!!!! I've been trying 12 years to get a girlfriend!!!!!! Does it look like it worked!!!!!!!!!!!!"

"I don't know, maybe?"

"NO IT HASN'T WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

"My bad."

"YES IT IS YOUR BAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

"I'm sorry OK."

I took a deep breath. "Any other bad news you would like to tell me?"

"No, but I need to show you something." He took me to the gadget room AKA his closet. He reached on the top shelf and pulled out a weird looking object. It looked like a piece of fabric with a wire attached to the back of it. "Try it on."

"Um, where exactly do I try it on at?"

"Attach it to your cheek."

I did and it fit perfectly.

"So, what does it do?" When I said this, I heard my voice coming from somewhere. I went closer to the wall and said something. I heard my voice coming from the other side of the wall.

He took me in the closet in the main bathroom. He pulled down on a hand-broom hanging from a nail on the wall. A secret door opened up, revealing a secret room.

"Wow, it's like a whole control room."

On the main screen, it showed exactly what I was seeing, which kind of hurt my eyes when I looked at it.

"Now when you wear that, I can tell exactly what is going on during school, and we can talk to each other during school."

Then he drove me to school to attempt the impossible.
