Blank

Can you see me?
I'm in front of you.
Shouting your name
And crying like so.

Why don't you reply?
Your face is as blank
As my paper.
Tell me what's wrong.

Am I lost?
Are you real?
Or is this a trick,
Played by malevolent God?

You're alive, you realise?
You can speak, think, hear.
So why don't you?
Everyone else is around us.

Someone is coming.
You stand up straight for them,
Speak to them, think of them, hear them.
Why not me?

They leave, not seeing me.
You return to your blank face.
As blank as my paper.
It's as if you're a robot

Who cannot think for themselves,
But instead only takes orders from your creator.
They control when you speak, think and hear.
You are their pawn.

But you aren't their robot,
Or their pawn.
You are your own person,
So what's wrong with me?

I see you,
Speak, think and hear your blank expression.
So why can't you see my emotional one?
Even in your face, you ignore me.

And then I see.
Everyone else has that same expression.
It's blank.
As blank as my paper.
