Preston's POV

We had just finished in Gene's class. I can't say I wasn't jealous of how protective Alex was over Josh. I understand that he needs to be here but still. Why are you being so protective of him? I don't understand. We all got up from our seats and started walking towards our next class.

Preston: "Alex. Are you ok?"

I walked up behind him and tried to hold his hand. He wouldn't let em know. He looked at me and smiled instead.

Alex: "Yeah. I'm fine.Why what's up?"

Preston: "I'm sorry."

Alex: "Why are you sorry."

We were standing in the middle of the hall way between our friends and the class. It was just us.

Lachlan: "Guys you have ten minutes don't get locked out."

Alex: "We won't."

They all walked off and left us there. I stared back at him though he seemed a little more upset. He raised one hand and brought it to my cheek. Gently holding me like I was something fragile. Like I was about to break.

Alex: "Preston what's wrong. Tell me what's going on."

Preston: "I'm scared.Why didn't you say you would protect me?"

I listened to him sigh and watched him relax in front of me.

Alex: "Damn it you scared me. I thought it was going to be something serious."

Preston: "Why wouldn't this be serious. Alex I can't be kicked out. I just realised why I'm here. Why wouldn't you tell me earlier?"

Alex: "Because I needed to protect the people who I knew for a fact would not have a chance if they went against anyone. I thought I was going to be able to choose. But I'll tell you what. When we break it. I have to choose who goes against who. And I knew you would be safe. I want to keep you here as well. And I know. It's half rigged. But I can't have you leave. Preston I'm going to tell you the same thing I told Josh."

Preston: "That's my problem. Why always Josh. What the hell is going on with you and Josh. You have been with him so much lately. And now you said you would leave here for him. Alexai I'm not stupid."

I watched his emotion and stance change and shift as I spoke. He looked like he was so upset and hurt. Like I just literally tried to stab him. Like I just broke every single piece of him. All in one moment.

Preston: "Alex I'm not stupid. If you don't actually like me. Then please tell me. I know you said that you weren't sure. But if you have made up your mind please tell me. I have the right to know don't I?"

Alex: "Preston please calm down. Your being stupid. Nothing is going on."

Preston: "Then why are you making all of these promises? Why are you helping him above everyone else? Why are you trying to keep him here so badly. You said you would throw yourself down for him. What's going on?"

I was getting angry. I could feel it. I could feel something being brought up out of me. I tried to keep it in. But I couldn't stop it. I felt my body heating up.

Alex: "Preston please.It's not like that I promise you. Listen to me please."

Preston: "No. Alex no your lying. Why are you lying to me. I know what's going on."

Alex: "No. Preston you don't he has to stay here because it is his life on the line.Literally his life. I have in my hands the lives of twenty people.And I'm going to do my best to save those I think need to be here and protect the ones who have to be here. Preston what's going on?"
