Calypso was a regular at the Starbucks a few blocks away. The mid-October breeze swept through Calypso's hair. It was Saturday. Refreshing, relaxing, Saturday. Planning to take photos around the theme of Life As It Is, she'd brought her camera with her to the coffee shop that morning. It was surprisingly calm once she got there.
"Hey, Phil!" Calypso called cheerfully. The barista grinned broadly at her and waved.
"How's it going, Cal?" He asked as he mixed a latte for the customer at the counter.
"Great, thanks! Hey, would you want to be part of my school project?" She said, trying to keep her thoughts on track.
"Sure. I'm not exactly all that interesting though." Phil replied as he handed the customer her drink. His ebony hair was swept gently to one side, as it always was. He was wearing his glasses today, instead of contacts, and his blue eyes practically sparkled behind them. His eyes were gorgeous, the kind you could go swimming in. With his pale skin and dark hair, he would have looked like a vampire if his eyes weren't there to save him. They weren't Ravi's shocking shade of blue, but the were still wonderful.
"Pffffft. Like you're not interesting" she said.
"I'm really not! I'm almost 29 and I'm still working in Starbucks. I don't have a girlfriend or all of my student loans paid off. You want the usual?".
"Yeah, thanks. Anyway, who needs a girlfriend?"
"I guess nobody needs a girlfriend."
"Exactly and-" Calypso was cut off when the door to the shop was thrust open. A young man wearing entirely black stepped through it. As soon as he took off his hood revealing chocolatey hair, both Phil and Calypso knew exactly who it was.
"Dan!" Phil and Calypso said in unison.
"Phil, you didn't tell me that you worked here on Saturdays!" Dan said with a little smirk. He had lovely pecan coloured eyes and they always brightened when Phil was around.
"Well. I do," Phil immediately began making Dan's drink. He didn't even have to ask anymore. It was almost sickening to see them interact in the way that they did. They obviously were in love, but did either of them see it? No! It just really annoyed Calypso, but she kind of enjoyed how cheesy their relationship was. In moments, a caramel macchiato was handed to Dan, a pumpkin mocha breve to Calypso. Pulling out her camera silently, she fixed the lens on the pair of them talking. Chht. They didn't even notice the picture being taken. Dan was in the same class as she was, and Calypso was tempted to ask about what he did for the homework assignment.
"Oh, Phil? If you ever need a roommate, call me. Mine just dropped out of school and is going back to living with her parents," Dan said as he wrote his phone number down on a napkin. He was blushing slightly.
"Thanks for thinking of me," Phil grinned at the napkin, his cheeks flushing scarlet.
"See you tomorrow?" Dan asked.
"See you tomorrow," Phil assured shyly.
As soon as Dan stepped out the door, Calypso walked back up to the counter.
"So when can I help with that homework?" Phil asked as he held the napkin gently. After Dan's number, he'd drawn a little smiley face.
"Already have," Calypso said, smiling slyly.
"I helped you by being boring?" Phil said, rolling his eyes.
"You're not boring, you don't need a fancy job, or-" Calypso said.
"A girlfriend," Phil cut off. He used the tone that people do when they're being lectured.
"Also, who needs a girlfriend when you already have Dan?" Calypso asked. She smirked, knowing that her plan had worked. He is finally going to realize, she'd said to herself.
"Dan? I don't have Dan. He's just a friend, nothing more," Phil stated sternly. Although he was blushing, he rolled his eyes.
"Well, I'd re-check that statement, seeing as you have his number and you're planning to move in with him!" she replied with a grin, stepping out the door. Through the large glass windows, she watched Phil turn a shade of bright pink but as it faded, he was smiling at the napkin in his hands. Finally, Cal thought as she started walking back to her apartment, I'm glad that whole mess is done with. This was shaping out to be a wonderful weekend.
