Chapter 9: My first mission!

Lucy's PoV

After eating, laughing and gossiping on Juvia and Gray's relationship, the girls from team Natsu and I ran over to Natsu, Happy and Gray, who were sitting on their own table. "Hey guys! Why don't we go on a job?" Natsu jumps up. "Aye!" Happy cheered. "Why not? I could use the dough." Gray shrugged. "Yeah! I have to get money for rent." Wendy cheered along with Happy. "So it's settled then. Lucy is going on her first mission!" Ersa throws her fist in the air. "Go on Lucy. Pick a request." Carla encourages me. "Me?! I can't choose! I don't know how these things work!" I squeal in worry. "I'll show you then. Come on." Natsu takes my hand and we run over to the board.

As we walked, I noticed a few guild members staring at us. why are they staring? Oh this is so embarrassing! I cry on my head as I stare at our hands, blushing. "So what type of job do you want to take?" Natsu asked as we stop at the board, pulling me out of my thoughts. "U-Um. What did you take for your first job?" I stutter, still blushing a little. "I can't remember really. I used to steal jobs because I was too young at the time. Don't tell anyone, okay." He joked. At least, I hope he joked. "Okay then. What about this one?!" I pick a job from the board. It said.

Return to Lucinda's work house on river avenue.

"A retrieval mission. That's good for your first job. Let's go get that to Mira." He takes it from my hand. "Great! Let's go then!" I smile from the praise and we run off to Mira.

Time skip~at mount Hakabai

"I-It's so co-cold." Wendy stutters as we walk up the mountain. "That's what you get for not bringing a coat!" Natsu huffed, smirking. "I am deeply sorry Wendy. But it seems I cannot requip any warm clothing for you." Ersa bows. "I-It's fine Ersa-s-San." Wendy pulls her scarf high on her face. "Here Wendy!" I take off me long, pink, thick coat and throw it on Wendy's head. "Oh I can't Lucy-San! You'll get a cold!" She tries to give it back to me. "It's fine. I'm an ice make Mage don't forget. The cold never bothered me anyway.~" I sang the last part. "Thank you Lucy-San. Come on Happy, Carla. We'll share it." Wendy lifts the coat above her head to make room for the exceeds.

As the exceeds snuggled into her shoulders, we reach the top of Mount Hakabai. "Alright everybody! Let's get to work!" Natsu smacks his fist into his opposite hand. "Aye!" Everyone shouts and we do as told.

After a while, everybody has still found nothing and the sun is passed its highest point in the sky. "Has anybody found anything yet!" Natsu yells impatiently. "No!" Everybody replies. Suddenly, a rumbling is heard from a higher point in the mountain. I look up and see a crystallised, blue eyed and scaly looking animal.

I looked up in horror as it slowly made its way down. Not again. It can't come back! I cried to myself. I remembered it. When they took me, before I met Fuego, and before I met Porli. It was after my parents died. After I lost Gray. After Deliora destroyed our village. A dark guild found me. They tortured me. Dissected me. Put that thing in me. To see how I worked. To see what went on in my brain.

As I looked up, it came closer and closer. Watching me like it's prey. "G-Guys!" I try shouting. Try to warn them. But my voice was too shaky. I was too scared. Just as always. I have to fight it. I think as I stand up straighter. I feel my hand grow warmer. I haven't felt this in a long time. I smirk as I walk closer to it. "Lucy!" Gray calls over. "Have you found anything yet!" I guess he hadn't looked up yet, because he didn't have a care in the world. "No!" I shout back, a little worry in my voice, also not trying to worry anyone else. I walk further, closer to the being. The snow under my feet crunched and I knew the other dragon slayers heard that. I saw Wendy in the corner of my eye look up and at me. "What's wrong Lucy-San? What we you lo..." Her voice fades as she sees the fire ball in my hand and the iced monster in front of me. "Wendy. Step back, slowly." I whisper to her. "Y-Yes Lucy-San." She stands up and steps back. Before she can get too far, she falls back and this makes the animal run straight towards her, with unearthly speed. I kick off my foot and towards Wendy. Just as its about to reach her, I punch it clean in the face, making it roar in pain. Because of this roaring, everyone looked at us. "Wendy! Get behind me!" I command and she runs to take cover. "Natsu! Get over here!" I command again, taking total control. He comes straight to my side. "What the hell is that thing!?" He screams in shock. "It's a mimic. Don't let it touch you. Distance attacks are best." I inform him. "Right!" He nods and we both build up our magics. I knew everyone behind was surprised. What did you expect? I had a ball of fire in my hand. "FIRE DRAGON! WING ATTACK!" Natsu shouted as he performed the spell. "FIRE DRAGON! FIRE SPEARS!" I shouted, throwing my attack towards the mimic. Both attacks hit it square on, but it was still standing. "Ersa! Do you have any fire armours!" I shout to her. "Right!" She requipes and runs up to join us. "Lucy! Let me help!" Gray tries coming up to us. As he does that, the mimic tries to grab him, until I melt it's arm off. "It thrives in ice, Gray! You'll only help it! Just stand back and let us handle this." I command as I hit it continuously. He hesitantly backs away, letting us finish the job.
